FFXIV Fan Gathering during Gamescom!

Hello everyone!

We recently trialed a new event in Germany, the Fan Gathering. The first one was in Hamburg, and we've had loads of fun talking with fans about the game and getting their friends signed up.

Now, we're continuing the series in Cologne! There's hardly a better reason than one of the world's largest gaming conventions to get the fans together for a little party, and that's exactly what we're planning to do.

Kahuna and I as well as all our community ambassadors and many more will be at the gathering, so don't miss it!

If you bring someone who doesn't yet play FFXIV, we'll get them up and running with a retail version of the game!



When and where will the Gathering take place?

On Thursday evening (August 14) after the convention closes. The location is easy to reach from the convention. You'll learn everything else from the confirmation mail! Important: You do NOT need a Gamescom ticket in order to come to our fan gathering as it won't take place at the same venue!



WANT! GIVE! What do I have to do to attend?

That's really easy. Just send us an application email with the subject "Gathering Cologne - I want to be there!" to sedecommunity@square-enix.com, containing the following information:

• Name
• Surname
• Date of Birth
• Character name
• World
• Free Company
• Forum Name

And, if you bring someone:

• Name of your friend
• Email-Address of your friend

Deadline for applications is Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 11 pm GMT (3 pm PST).

Please note: All participants need to be aged 18 or older. Please bring a form of identification, as admission will take place by name.




FAQ

Why is the Gathering 18+ only?

There might be alcoholic beverages, and it will probably become rather late.


How do I know if I'm in?

We will send out confirmation mails between Monday and Tuesday (German time). Please note that, due to the enormous workload during gamescom, we won't be able to send out refusals. Sorry!


What happens if more people sign up than there are available slots?

In that case we'll choose participants at random, but it's not likely that this will happen.


When and where will the event take place?

On the evening of the 14th of August at a location that is easy to reach using the regional train, as well as the tram lines S12 and S13, not too far from the convention area!


Will there be a program?

Only a very casual one. These Gatherings are meant to bring fans together and friends into the game - and to have fun!



Will there be food and drinks?

Yessire!


Are you trying to sell us anything?!?

Plastic food containers and make up sets. No, of course not! We do not force anyone who attends to subscribe or buy anything.

It’s a shame that we didn’t have a Fan Gathering at last year’s GamesCom. It was great meeting Yoshida-san and Foxclon-san at last year’s GamesCom though. (^_^ )-b

Sasunaich, what do you think the odds are that the FFXIV team (Yoshida-san, Foxclon-san, the EU/NA Community Reps, Developers, etc) will be visiting other European countries (like The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Russia, etc) in the future?

Right now we have the GamesCom in Germany, the JapanExpo in France and the Fan Festival in London, but not everyone will be able to travel to those countries to meet with the other Fans and the FFXIV team.

Hi Aldora,

I can't speak for Yoshida, the devs and the NA Community Team at this point but in regards to European countries and the EU Community Team, if there's demand for this we will certainly look into the possibility of doing Fan Gatherings in other countries as well.

We always seem to get overlooked even though we're so close to Japan. I know Yoshi-P did a media tour here a while back but that wasn't a fan thing. We have conventions like Supanova for pop culture in general where I'm sure SE would be very welcome, though I would really love to see an actual Fan Fest/Gathering type thing down here.

We're forced to go a third of the way around the planet (to either NA or EU countries) or speak/understand the Japanese language if we want to share in the Final Fantasy love otherwise ;.;

If you do have Fan Gatherings here in the US, I'd recommend you guys do it like the FFXI events you did shortly after Chains of Promathia came out, and make it a state-by-state tour. :x The US is a big country, and while it might not be hard for people to drive halfway across the country for something in Germany, I live in a state in the US that, by itself is larger than Germany. :| lol
