Going to sell small stacks, price them higher than those selling big stacks.
That's what I do, I put larger numbers at a lower price than the lower numbers. It's the old "buying in bulk" mentality. You want to save a few gil? Buy 100 of them. I find that if I put smaller numbers together, I can get a better price. Let's take Karakka root for example. A lot people might have sets of 50 or more on the board for 2500. I can charge more and sell them in packs of 5, because the initial cost is lower (though the per root price is higher) and people can buy what they need at the moment. Most people are buying for their own chocobo, so 50 @ 2500 becomes 125,000 where 5 @ 2750 becomes 13,750, a number people don't mind parting with. Works, I sell everything every day. I do this with Carbonized Material and soil as well. I don't ever have any left overs the following day. Yes, I have to employ all 20 slots of 4 retainers, but it works.

We need to bring back the Market Wards, buy orders and sell orders through Retainers, and all that other wonderful market-based stuff that used to be.

Am I seriously reading this correctly? You are whining because you want your item to be the next one sold all the time and think it's unfair that other people out there want exactly the same thing? You and the people you complain about are just the same.

It sounds like the market isn't for you.....

Odin is a dream server for marketing <3 Probably 1% of endgamers craft, the market is just empty and everything sells. Pretty unfair to compare odin to other servers xD

It's a tedious, irritating process that is easily remedied by returning to the excellent system Final Fantasy XI used. I don't know why this hasn't been addressed sooner, I can't be the only person who finds it infuriating?

(Edit. I now realise this is about the 100th thread on the same subject, so apologies for that, but the point is still valid).
Once they allow addons, this wont be much of an issue. Markets in WoW and other games can be managed through addons like Auctioneer, and it helps to quickly adjust prices to a set amount. One gil under lowest, % under lowest, ect. They can keep the current setup, just give us basic addons to help improve our quality of life.

Why wouldnt they? I can see them being allowed as time goes on - if im not mistaken, they already allow parsers to view damage, right?

Auction addons are a great boon, they help out a lot for those who use them.

All you'd need is two people using such an addon to hit rock bottom prices >.>

Not really, it would just speed up everyones current process. Addons dont make prices drop, they only provide a better quality of life for everyone using the market.

Yes, it would speed up everyone's process. Which drives prices down. Especially if the add-on is super convenient, like press a button anywhere to update your price to the lowest. People would change from updating prices every 5 minutes (or longer, if they are in a dungeon and can't acess their retainer) to... Let's say every 5 seconds.

Unless the item is one that's swiftly bought faster than it can be obtained, two people would steadily trickle the price down. The problem is only exacerbated as more and more people use the app. 2 people competing may not drop it fast... But 10 will. 50 people trying to sell wares? That will crash hard until even things like primal crafting mats are better off sold to NPCs.

What's needed is for more people to avoid destructive pricing tendencies and the thought that getting rid of product is all that matters.

    Agree wholeheartedly

Sometimes all that does matter is getting rid of the product. After whittling down the price and the item still being up for sale 3-5 days later, I bottom the floor it to get rid of it and free up the slot for a new item.
