Falling into a new role

Hey Everybody,
I'm coming back to the game after a 2 month hiatus and would like some input. I've currently been a PLD main and have done some end game raiding(T1-T3, EX primals), but I think I'm starting to fall out of love with the tank role and would like to switch a DD main but, I'm torn between which one.

I should note that I am switching from PS3 to a newly constructed gaming PC and I'm sure that would help alleviate some of my frustration with targeting and lag.

I really want to go bard, even though the damage output isn't as high, I like the mobility and having at least SOME support mechanics to help me feel important.

SMN was pretty fun as well and I might get to ARC before I settle on a main but, I need to get used the squishyness and know when to push/pull in a fight.

That's really all of my experience for now, so any input would be appreciated!

I used to Tank Paladin, until I took a Summoner to the knee.

I enjoy Summoner and like finding new ways to push my Damage a little more each fight. Since there is no set rotation, it's a mini-game in itself to maximize each fight.

BRD is fun, quite simple and extreme mobile role to take you shouldn't have too much problem with AoE even you got delayed or lag. the damage you will hit per skill may be a bit lower but you gonna constantly hit the target while other have to move away.

SMN is has the more mobility than BLM and will require you to micro managing your pet and Aetheral flow stack to max the DPS output. We may do the most damage in long term form our DoTs but suck at burst damage. In high mobility situation we would put all 3 main Dots then run around do damage by fester and ruinII while try tokeep our dots up at all time. Another thing about SMN is we will be a utility job, like a Swiss Knife, other than doing damage we can heal, resurrect people, even tank in some situation too. So we would be doing that stuff from time to time too!. And for the even good side once you leveling a SMN you will be leveling a SCH too. If you think you are bored DPSing stuff you can switch to healer without the frustration of leveling form Lv.1 (studying how to heal is highly recommended if you ever want to play SCH!) and without too much penalty from 30 int vs 30 mind

Anyway pickup what you like study it well, and having fun with what you choose!

As I read these aloud in my head, there was a.."yep" at the end of each one. Haven't gotten around to smn or mnk yet but I have played the base classes a bit and can understand.

BLM - spot on
DRG - the dirt in some places is just phenomenal
BRD - forgot to mention those "WTF just hit me" moments followed by an immediate dirt sampling

Idk who told you BRDs damage output isn't high OP...is it the highest? No, is it strong and viable? Absolutely. I also think its extremely fun and active because of less emphasis on combos and more on weaving in between GCD, I suggest giving it a go OP.

I'm in the same boat almost, OP. I've been trying out all the roles and I think I've landed on DPS. Only problem there is... the dungeon wait times!

@ChrisBox I know it has crazy high burst damage, but from what I've seen in vids it gets outscaled by other classes on most boss fights but, I can see where your coming from.

@Koko 30 mins compared to instant is definitely a drag :/ But, I think I may give it a go!
