what will be your expression about the game.

within 2 weeks we will have our first year anniversary for ( FFXIV ARR ).
and what come to my mind is a question about this game in future, must of us
was saying this game is new and its lack this and this just wait till its grow and become
    interesting.
    Question is simple :

If Someone Started this game lets say at Aug 2015 or Aug 2016, what he will be doing in this game to keep him attached and interested ?!

    Points to consider :
    # about relic quest ?!
    # the length of story-line ?!
    # what will be in duty roulette ? is he going to find people to do the starter story-line
and primal progression for some quests ?

(just in case , I suck in typing English so bail with me )

i have a hard time to say to my friend to come join me actually, why? because i know that if they join me, get to 50 is not that long yep... but after this... it's seriously a pain in the ass.

    - get your crafter able to do any craft 1-2-3 star cost one arm if not two... and will ask a very huge time investment, where the player will simply play alone!
    - the relic quest? don't start me on this, same boring grind for get the second best weapon of the game while being the most time sink of the whole game (the alexandrite part will take you around 75 days (if you don't use your myth for additional map)
    - Raid? it's not raiding we have actually it's dancing! we don't play the game we are dancing and that a huge trouble for a lot of my friend.

at the 2.1 it was easy to say to my friend join you can catch me... but from 2.2 it's over... a friend joining now, will spend age for catch me up, if he can catch me actually.

if i had to define FF14... timesink and no fun. don't get me wrong i did support the game and i'm still there, but can i say to my friend to join now? not with the direction of the game. i don't think grind = fun, i don't think timesink = fun, i don't think dancing boss = fun... all of this are not fun, when you have done it one time it's over, the fun is done.

the huge point FF14 lack actually? replayability and fun factor!

do a dungeon because of the grind is not fun, repeat the same action over and over and over is not fun! why not add a bit of random into the fight instead to add it into all the rest of the game. don't get me wrong i'm not asking for full random fight, but add some random that will make you move out of the auto-pilot mode we have soo far.

after 300 days my sub ended and im having a hard time to convince myself to prolong it , during my playtime i have:
    - levelled all classes to 50
    - got all initial relics
till atmas came i had really alot of fun with the game, but then it started to get a boring drag , then i got books which were even worse and once i read on the novus requirements i stopped at 5th book and never got an single animus , also the endgame content itself wasnt much fun , it was either wiping or making gil to pay for a good party since it was hard to find people willing to help for free in my case, the game was fun while it lasted but i think its time to move on , its a good game but there are other games to be played too

If my opinion mattered in the grand scheme of things I would like to take this opportunity to share some knowledge, and perspective.

While I sift through forums and games online I read a lot of comments, most notably I try to see within the debates and passionate responses the clarity that exists within the differing points of view. Sometimes I sit at a loss, my faith crushed in the future of humanity. I then recall a time when I was not so open minded, that the world had to operate within my point of view or it was a failure. It was not until I hit my late 20's and now into my mid 30's I am proven otherwise to my once draconian views on what makes a game fun.

The essence of what makes a game fun for me now is the ability to share it with others, friends, family and so on. As I have sifted through these very forums for over a year I've noticed one thing, we are all of differing points of view. So often are the points of view that I believe now at my age I have hit the generation gap. I have been online with the internet since I was 14, I am now 20 years older and I have changed since then. I can now recollect the changes in my opinions and "needs/wants" in almost pinpoint precision in time.

So what makes this game fun? Depends on who you are talking to, I find what makes this game fun for me is taking a casual approach and accepting that the game will exist with or with out me and that the time spent in it is not a worthy reflection of my victories in it because that content will exist regardless. To some that is not worth it, to me it is. I've been on the polar opposite and grinded my youth away for pixel rewards. Now I enjoy the little things.

To others this is unacceptable. To them the game is a competition that must mean they sit at the top. To them if you are not part of the top content clearing groups you are lazy, you aren't worth it. You're "casual".

Differing points of view on what "fun' is.

In closing, I would recommend this game a year later, and not because there is a lack of things to do, but because for me with a casual approach it fits a lifestyle for players liek myself who have grown up on MMO's. When I was younger they didn't have a demographic to please (baby boomers), now that generation is what is becoming of the Gen X''s. Combine that with my generation, millenials, etc. Well now we have a melting pot of differing points of view. Some will leave, some will stay, but the game will thrive because in 12 months I've seen more content pumped out from a dedicated team than I ever saw from a plethora of other MMO's I've played over the years.

I find this game way of progression similar to game most of people playd ( world of warcraft).
the way this game making tiers of progression where last one became less valuable as the next patch come out
throwing the old amazing content in un-recycleable place, less people playing it and no one go and look back to old content.
i got story of recent friend joined he is a tank .. found really hard time to finish his first main story raids so we have to join him to make it faster.

I will tell them what I tell everyone now. XIV should be free to play. Nothing about it is worth a monthly subscription. After 2 months you will have accomplished everything the game has to offer and be reduced to grinding a handful of boring instances. The community is a joke. There are no consequences so you're free to be the biggest jerk alive and no one will ever know. And finally, judging by the direction SE is headed in their games, it will never get better. It will quickly fall the way XI did. It will maintain a small amount of die hard players with hardly any influx of new accounts. The only difference is XI lasted more than half a decade before it died. XIV will not even come close. We'll all patiently await the next SE MMO when PS5 comes out.

Yeah I suppose we will see lots of '1 year on...' posts over the next few weeks.

For me, I thought 2.0 was amazing. It pretty much met all my expectations after having paid close attention to the game for the year leading up to release with all the live letters and such.

What I will say though, is that it feels about the right time for us to start getting information on the expansion, and it seems SE are of the same mindset with the first reveal coming at fanfest very soon. Its been great to have the patches to look forward too every 3 months, and I have particularly enjoyed frontlines from 2.3, but I feel as though A Realm Reborn has pretty much run it's course now. Fulfilled it's purpose.

What we have right now is a solid foundation to build on. The community is sizeable, the world is beautiful, and the story is intriguing. I would say that since patch 2.2 Yoshi-P and co have made some decisions that might need to be readdressed or altered in the expansion. 'Time sink' is the first phrase that comes to mind when I think of recent additions to the game, but this can easily be put down to SE needing to keep players playing the game whilst they prepare for the expansion. After all, although Yoshi set out a clear road map for ARR some time ago, I don't think anyone knew just how successful ARR was going to be. The information they have to work with now will allow them to make a much more robust, long term plan for the future.

A plan that will be formed upon the knowledge of how successful ARR is, how the community is and what content is prefers, and a plan that can make use of the blank cheque Yoshi-P will now get to work with with thanks to the success of ARR. I would say It's just the beginning, and there is lots to look forward too.

No offense taken. To me I'm saving them from the bitterness of having to waste their time and money in a game who's quality is that of a free to play game.

I believe ffxi last so many years because the game was much work for less reward and took so much time for someone to call himself geared.

I disagree with foundation part. its build up into tiered system where older have no value to most of players
which is kill the old experience which most of people will miss.
