Oh, I know it's a pipe dream, Evangela.
They'd be much more profitably served investing that time into other things.
But, that's not to say I wouldn't absolutely love them for it were they to do so.

I'm not delusional enough to think they'd spend several million in resources to gain a marginal boost in monthly subscribers.
Square-Enix fans (or maybe SE themselves) have a great penchant for hyping things that end up not being remotely the case.

Remember when XI was coming to Vita?
    Or Final Fantasy XIII Haeresis?

I believe the Mac port of FFXIV will be another one of those situations when the smoke clears.

Top tip, later 2013 MBP with Retina have their RAM/HDD soldered in, you can't remove them without removing the solder. You did just answer why SE shouldn't bother with an OSX version of XIV though, you have a system that is built for gaming, a Windows based PC so there is no reason for SE to build an OSX port for you, in fact there is no reason for them to build an OSX port at all, just use Steam and stream it from your gaming rig to your Mac.

At the end of the days, Mac's just ain't build for gaming, which is why those "I'm a Mac" adverts always focused on building webpages and such whilst PC's were office machines, if they ever went for the gaming side....... yeah, building XIV for a non-gaming system is not a Field Of Dreams thing.

Yup! They sure do. That's why I bought the absolute maxed out one when I got it. I do lots of reading before I buy tech stuff.

Not trying to argue for SE to make a Mac client ASAP, of course. I understand the reality of Mac's gaming position, and while I don't have enough Square-Enix stock in my portfolio for it to make a difference, I'd rather them not invest in that at this moment.

Wasn't so much addressing the "Why no XIV for Mac" as much as "Why does everyone insta-hate on good Apple stuff" thing.
But, the world will (for some strange reason) never accept the fact that they're basically the same exact thing in 99.99% of usage scenarios.
Why can't we all just get along and enjoy content instead of fighting over tools?! /dramaticness

Firstly the team would need to rebuild the client to support a completely new OS (OSX) which uses a different graphical system (they couldn't use DX on a Mac), every time there was an update to the .exe they would need to do the same update to the mac client, then there is QC, at the moment there are a lot of people who can make sure there are no exploits/issues with the Windows client, they wouldn't have the same userbase for OSX. Then there is funding, I don't really want my subscription fee to be used to develop the client for a niche system which less than 10% of the users actually own when that 10% can already run the game if they install Windows.

PS3/4 clients may not own a PC, or may not own a PC capable of playing XIV, Mac owners who want a Mac client should be able to run XIV so there is no reason on earth for it to be developed for the Mac, you haven't actually given a good reason as to why resources should be put aside for a Mac client, why 90+% of the userbase should have their subscription fee used to develop it.

This is about the state of it, and it's where I'm currently content with.
I'd love official support, but that's an expensive and time consuming proposition that most users aren't going to benefit from.

Lexxuk is right, SE is better served putting resources into patches and R&D at this time. If we're that driven to play XIV on our Macs, we can full install Windows 100% supported and the game runs as well as can be expected on the hardware. So I did so, and whenever I'm out and need to craft or raid, I can.
I don't expect something that high of resolution and that thin to beat out my Titan box, ever.

I think most of us are just curious what the official word is on this, as a matter of curiosity and nothing else.

Prob if Apple provide more support directly, I dont believe this is something that SE just dont want on a apple based OS, its apple really, linux has a following more cos, guess what, valve is giving direct support to steam OS which is based on linux, its this level of difference thats at play here.

The mac port IS in development. Yoshida mentioned it in the article I linked to, on the first page.

Also people need to realise, devs require some form of support on the platform they are building on with the tools to use them on, apple dont provide any support to a dev, its all down to the dev, this means any changes that apple makes, is at their whim and upto the devs to constantly catch up, PC has many tools and the development tools have far better support and these notes go out in advance so they can update when needed.
Apple hasnt supported any games to be released on to the platform, its all done through the developer. Also, if people are running this at the retina resolution, then thats your fault if the game is tanking...

It runs at about 17 frames at full blown Retina glory on my 650m.
But everything (even with the UI stretched to max) is very, very tiny.
    Incredibly sharp, but tiny.
On a widowed screen a little smaller with low settings, I get about 40 fps.

Looks alot like PS3 at that point, and the fans are pushing full tilt. Advise using a cooling laptop pad for parts longevity.
