Your Mac is a PC. You paid a premium to be able to run OSX legally, not for a different machine. When you buy a Mac all you are doing is buying a seriously expensive OS.

More on topic with the OP:
According to Valve and nVidia's presentation in GDC2013 (pdf: https://developer.nvidia.com/sites/d...to%20Linux.pdf / video: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1017850/ ) Linux gaming is on the rise and Mac game is either stale or slightly falling.

These platforms have a very small current market share when it comes to video games, but it's very expected that they will rise in the future further.

The main problem that current developers face is their original decision of graphics API, much more than OS platform. I'm referring to the usage of DirectX instead of OpenGL, which is the only option for both Mac and nix platforms.

I won't go into any detail about the matter, but the point is this isn't trivial.

    I would like this.

I have the same MacBook Pro Retina as another user who poster earlier, basically my portable rig.
Installed Windows just to play XIV as best as I can on it, because Windows on computers isn't my preference if I have a choice.
(I really think Windows Phone 8.1 is amazing, though!)

I know it's a task making openGL and DirectX play nice.
I don't expect this soon. But knowing there's a little more than idle talk going on about it would bring a smile to my face.

The point wasn't updating engine, but client content (patches, 2.4 etc.) so instead of developing for PC/PS3/4 they have to add development for OSX into the mix too, probably not hard to do but would detract from development time to create a CMS for translating the content to the Mac client (it's more than likely created on PC which then exports the content to PS3/PS4 specific, so the development system would have to be upgraded to include OSX).

But let's face it, OSX has never been a system for gamers, it's just an underpowered PC with a 200% markup, if you want a gaming rig you buy a proper PC with Windows, if you really want to use OSX you can buy off the shell hardware and run OSX86 which will install OSX on that hardware, you then get the power of a real computer with the toy OS from Apple, or if you're feeling funky, you can install OSX into a VM and do whatever it is that OSX users do, other than sit in starbucks with their turtleneck writing their novel which will never get published, but hey, you have the apple logo so people think "awesome.... a mac".

...Hmm. So, give me a second.

So much rage towards a tool and the people who prefer/use it.

You seem to understand, they're the same thing. Same CPU. Same chipset. Same GPU. Same network controllers. Same storage controllers. Same display OEMs. I won't say you're wrong, because I'm not going to flame war.
But, for future note, the reasons I prefer my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina:
    - Catcher Elements (the people who mill Apple's aluminum) are the best on earth at what they do. It's high quality, and it feels like it. No plastic anywhere.
    - I can run OSX legally and supported. I can run Windows. Legally and supported. Takes ~6 seconds to switch. Neither ever crashes.
    - Huge retail and service network if I ever need to take them in for repairs. Don't see any Lenovo stores. Sony backed out of PCs. Don't think HP has a walk-in retail service center. ASUS isn't setting up shop at the mall.
    - Higher resell value. I paid about 2,200 for my laptop. I can comfortably sell it (almost 11 month old machine) for 80% of that. My top of the line Sony had lost 75% of its value within 6 months.
    - I know how to use xcode, automator, cocoa, and terminal quite well. Anything a PC can do, I can likely do on my Mac, generally quicker.

    And lastly, yeah.
It does have a visual appeal. It's a minor status symbol. I make fantastic income. I can afford for my laptop to say as much, so I let it.
It's becoming more common, so it isn't a conversation starter. But it's nice hardware. And people like it

talking about more games coming to Mac is irrelevant. those developers see the market there but that doesn't mean SE should do the same. how many XIV players want to play it on Mac? probably 500 or 50 people in total.

Wouldn't know, I don't buy my computers, I build them myself so I get to pick and choose which components I slot in, I can build a rig which far outstrips a Mac performance wise at a much cheaper price point.

Anything a PC can do, I can likely do on my Mac, generally quicker.
Okay, let's time it! Something that can be done on pretty much any PC, a quick race. Let's take out our RAM and hard drive and upgrade them, how long will it take you?

Oh, I know it's a pipe dream, Evangela.
They'd be much more profitably served investing that time into other things.
But, that's not to say I wouldn't absolutely love them for it were they to do so.

I'm not delusional enough to think they'd spend several million in resources to gain a marginal boost in monthly subscribers.
Square-Enix fans (or maybe SE themselves) have a great penchant for hyping things that end up not being remotely the case.

Remember when XI was coming to Vita?
    Or Final Fantasy XIII Haeresis?

I believe the Mac port of FFXIV will be another one of those situations when the smoke clears.

Last time I did it, I think about 25 minutes? That was back in 2012 on my older MBP, though. Last time I needed to upgrade a laptop, actually. Sold it for 100% of what I paid for it 4 months after I got it, when I upgraded to my retina.
Of course, I tend to use my Mac Pro for the more intensive things when I'm editing audio or using lots of VIs.
For a laptop, 16gb of Ram and a 2.5ghz core i7 tend to work fine for me.

But, when it's game time, of course I just boot up the PC.

Which I built. Myself. For about 3x the cost of my laptop and a little more than my Mac Pro.
