The reason why they are questioning the viability of the move is that only a few Macintosh systems can actually play the game and the number is decreasing rather than increasing. Apple has decided to remove the dedicated graphics card, which this game needs, and is using integrated graphics instead on most of their systems. Apple is pouring most of its resources into the iPhone and iPad, both of which account for over 80% of their revenue where the Macintosh computer only accounts for 10%. Even though they have said that they are still dedicated to the Mac as a platform, it is a dwindling segment of their market compared to all of the others.

If I had to put my Gil on the table and make a bet, I would bet against a Mac version.

I am a Macintosh, iPhone and iPad user but had to buy a dedicated gaming PC to play this game. My choices were to drop 2,600.00 on a Mac or 1,200.00 on a PC which was several times more powerful than the Mac for more than half the money.

For those who are steadfast in their desire to not run Windows to play the game, I would encourage you to invest in a PS4 and get a nice keyboard and mouse.

Apple still sells models with a dedicated GPU - the lower tier ones are the one with intel only solution. Yes, intel's GPUs are becoming more prevalent http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=mac, but I think that anyone who needs a PC for any graphics functionality would have the wherewithal to get a model with a discreet GPU. intel GPUs just don't cut it. By the way, this is not a steadfast desire to not run the game on Windows; for me, its really more about convenience. It's so I don't have to use a 3rd party fan controller when I go into windows. I have a desktop PC and FF14 plays nice on that, but ever since I learned about the mac port, I was like "sweet". Playing the game outside of the house is nice. I really do hope the port sees a release.

I am a Mac User, and i would love a Mac official port, Mac can run it (even the macbook air can run ffxiv!, watch youtube).

i hate to have to buy a windows license just to play my favorite game, but the worst part is having to interrupt my work just to reboot and starting bootcamp to play, instead of playing on my mac while working.

i don't know why there are so many haters, you already have your PC version, please let the developers go on with our Mac version, Mac market is a lot bigger that you expect, just look around, write "ffxiv arr mac" on google and look.

It's hard to say if a mac client would make sense for SE. The mac install base would obviously only be a small fraction of the Windows base. That said, it's probably not an entirely insignificant number. As a player, I'm pretty much all for it. The argument of "if they do this they won't have time to do x" is bunk, as I'm sure they'd bring in new team members to do the port. It would bring in some amount of new players... my guess is probably somewhere around 5-10% the number of Windows players.

Apple has never been good at fostering a gaming environment on the mac, and in fact has driven away a lot of great titles in the past. However, the idea that macs are underpowered or incapable is patently ridiculous.

Yoshi is of course right though, most mac users who are gamers own and use a gaming PC. I fall into that camp, but assuming a $30 price tag I'd probably buy the mac client so I can play it on my macbook w/o needing to dual boot.

A mac client would be perfect for me, for those times when there are psn shenanigans. I know the game looks beautiful on my imac, but I haven't figured out the paralells settings. The frame rate is like 1 frame per minute. I must have done something wrong...

the fact that this thread only has 10 pages after 3 weeks, I don't think it will be a wise business move.

Well, luckily it's not our decision to worry about.

I would love a Mac client too. Its not a question whether Mac is good for games, but rather many of us do have a Mac, and are stuck with Mac OS X for some other purposes. For other games like Assassin Creed or Battlefield, bootcamp is a good option because you can't really do anything else while playing those anyway, however, games like WoW did helped us pass time while on OS X.

If response amounts had anything to do with executive decision making, every Summoner would be in full glowing High Allagan with a full sized Titan Summon zombie mode behind them, Dragoons would be flying around on dyed pink Svara mounts that breathe whatever substance they fancy at the moment for 11,000 damage, and people would be complaining that they need more inventory spaces because it keeps flooding with Atma.
