Character's name hovering in middle of the screen

One of my biggest annoyances with FFXIV (I've not got many) is the floating player name which hovers above your character's head. The positioning is my main issue as it's right in the middle of the screen which only serves to obscure the game's gorgeous visuals. There's also no apparent purpose for the details to be permanently visible as my character name and LS icon aren't things I need a constant reminder about.

All I ask is that you either move the character name and icons to a less obstructive position like other Final Fantasy games (perhaps to the bottom right with your party members listed above) or add the ability to hide only your own character's name. I'm well aware that turning off names (/names) can be used to solve the problem but it's a massive trade-off as I still want to be able to see the names of NPCs and fellow players.

i agree too. i know there is a way to disable all names but i only would like do have an option to disable only mine,maybe enhance the display names setting so something like this

/names aMode
-Display all names
/names bMode
-Display only the names of friendly units (all friendly NPCs,PArty members, Non-party members)
/names cMode
-Displays Only party member names
/names dMode
-Display only enemy Names
/names eMode
-Displays all but my own

this way you can have more control over name tags and be able to target easier, find people easier in a crowded area and such and such....

I agree. No point in displaying our char to us. It should be removed and not an option as it doesn't make sense and don't see a valid reason for it. Especially so since it's obscuring game's visuals as mentioned, not a good thing.
