Novus is the last upgrade before 2.4.
Upgrading it further before 2.4 would mean it would overtake High Allagan weapons and that's just not going to happen.

It may be they had a different upgrade path in mind at first, which would have meant more steps through 2.3x, but Novus is what we have now.

Have you got a source for that? That's over 6 months without an update, it seems... really really unlikely. Everything I've read indicates that we should expect it in 2.35 or 2.38, and then another update for 2.45/2.48. And so on and so forth. There isn't much recent news so... where are you getting that from?

    From the 13th LotP LIVE:

A: In my 55th Letter from the Producer, I touched upon the Saga of the Zodiac Weapons, which will be introduced in patch 2.2. This isn't something you should expect to complete in patch 2.2—it will continue through patch 2.25 and 2.3. Until now there have been mainly two means of progression: the first being defeating powerful enemies in end-game content to obtain high-item-level equipment, and the second being collecting Allagan tomestones to purchase gear. The Zodiac Weapons do not have the restrictions of these two methods, but are designed to take a long time to complete. As they require the collection of items with a low drop rate, their item level has been set fairly high. Ultimately you'll be able to customize attributes such as spell speed and critical hit rate to a certain extent, and we plan for the design to change significantly over time. This will essentially become the weapon upgrade system that I've been talking about up until now.
Yoshida had always been specific on the patch numbers (including those in decimals) - there is no mentioning of anything beyond 2.3 (such as 2.31/2.35/2.38, for example). In the previous few LIVE letters where they cover 2.35/2.38, there seems nothing touched on further upgrades down the Saga of the Zodiac Weapon line, other than the fact that the eventual weapon will have an entirely different name and look, which is safely to assume to happen within the 2.4-2.5 time frame for the last installment of the Binding Coil.

Whilst the above quote did not explicitly said nothing will happen in 2.3's time frame, but given the various indications from the LIVE letters and how materia prices are still high (and thus the acquisition rate), I doubt we will see anything before 2.4 hits.

But that's the thing. They've been clear that Allagan weapons will be the best. So having the Relic upgrade again, before new Allagan weapons come out, won't happen.

Could be an atma type again. Atma increased ilvl but added nothing when you got it. They could add another step that bumps it to i115 but does nothing lol.

Not likely. ATMA increased the ilvl to allow for the stat increases from the books.

Regardless, even a full stat atma that hasn't been turned into an animus does not have the stats worthy of an i100 weapon. It's the oddest step of the 3 and clearly SE doesn't really care to have a uniform rule. Even ilvl damages are not uniform. i90>95 is +1wd while i110>115 is +2wd and i95>100 is +2wd. As far as I can see, yoship can and will do whatever he wants.

I'm just thinking about a situation where you have Novus at i110, and then it gets raised to i120 at the same time that we get i130 (or i135 weapons). Basically, if they wait that long, Novus will be complete junk to anyone who's serious about their gear.
Ha. I made a post about this about this 3-4 weeks before 2.3 hits.
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2189575

If shiva provides i120 weapon upgrades instead of just i115 weapons (like what levi provided compared to i95 allagan), early coil raiders would just get her weapons on the side as they prepare for 3rd coil. Even if she provides i115 weapons only, that'd still faster than whatever upgrade novus gets in 2.4 (it will be a huge grind). That is unless shiva provides out of date i110 weapons like ramuh. Then people will just stick with hitting t9 until i115 weapons drop and attempt 3rd coil. Then at that point, relic will be something desirable asap for raids if gerolt style weapons are gone from coil.

So at the end of the day, at the rate of grind we're going with, relic line will never be top of the line or 1st choice for early raiders unless SE starts removing options from players (what little of it) or minimize the grind by alot.

The only difference is the Physical/Magical damage, and yes I know that's the most important stat. The point is that at no point in the quest line, barring early 2.0 before they adjusted Allagan to 95, were Relics on par or better than Allagan. And it's not likely that will change.
