PS3 to PS4 version upgrade question

So I have a brand new ps4 sitting in front of me, but before I hook it up and go through the upgrade process I wanted to find out about some information. I heard that the upgrade process is complicated and you lose all of your hotbar settings and other things after the upgrade.

1. Is it true you lose your settings, or is it possible to keep your settings by copying the character and settings save data to a USB drive from ps3 and then plug the USB drive into the ps4 and transfer those saves to the ps4? Or is that not possible since the character and settings save data (2 separate files) is saved as a ps3 file for ps3 version?

2. I know I go to Mogstation and click that upgrade button, but how does the process work beyond that? Is there anything I should know ahead of time? I'm already aware I can't go back to ps3 version, and the info in this link. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/ps4/ps3_users/ Anything beyond that? That makes it sound simple, but I always hear it's a pain. Is that because of what I mentioned in 1.?

2. You have to click the upgrade button. You will get a code. MAKE SURE YOU'RE LOGGED INTO THE PSN ACCOUNT THAT IS LINKED TO YOUR FFXIV PS3 ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU USE THE CODE or it will be consumed and be useless and you'll have to buy a copy or plead to SE support. You can't go back to PS3 version after.

What exactly does "all your data" mean? hotbar setup? system config and character config settings? macros? Have you yourself or anyone you know tried copying the settings to a USB device beforehand and then transferring to ps4? So I use the code while on the ps3?

if i may add a question. that icon on the username/password page on the ps3 that says [ps3->ps4], do you click that before Mogstation or after? what is it for exactly?

Yet SE provides a way for you to migrate those.

Is there any way to carry over a character attached to a PS3 account to a new PSN account on PS4? I don't mind buying the game again I just don't want that PSN username anymore

From what I was told in game, I asked someone after they explained some things to me if this sounded right, and they said yes.

1. Hookup the PS4 and download the PS4 client if you haven't already (I haven't hooked mine up yet).
2. Unhook PS4 and hook PS3 back up. (I can't have both hooked up at same time. Some people can.)
3. Start the FFXIV client and click the button to transfer character data from ps3 > ps4, then quit game.
4. Before unhooking ps3, go to mogstation and click upgrade to get the download code.
5. Unhook PS3 and hook PS4 back up.
6. Use the code to download the PS4 version of the game.
7. Start game and transfer data to PS4 version same way mentioned in the link someone posted above.

Does this sound right? Can anyone confirm this should work? Or wrong order? Someone in game said this sounded fine, but it was more jumbled when typed in game rather than a neat list so they may of misread.
