    Issues with removing auto-face :(

I've got issues with auto-face and hope someone can help. For Turn 7, it's advised to remove auto-face to prevent getting stoned/stoning someone. But when I removed auto-face I couldn't connect my attacks. I was 'not in range'. It was stupid. I stood in front of the boss and had to be within her aoe range to connect my attack! I ended up putting auto-face back on. Sure enough, I was back on range. Eventually, I will need to fight this Turn without auto-face on; I'll be kiting the renaulds in the 4-stack method as Summoner. I need to know why I'm not in range whenever auto-face is off. Yesterday, I attacked baddies in the field without auto-face on, trying to find the issue. I had to stand directly in front of my target, stare straight ahead to ensure my attack connected. This isn't good, especially when I've got to tap a Renauld way off in the arena while possibly cursed. Please offer any tips if you can or explain why I'm not in range when auto-face is off. On a PS3, btw. Thx!

DPS doesn't need to disable auto-face. More hassle than it's worth. You have voice? wait til 2 secs on timer and turn away.

You can do T7 just fine with auto face target on. Just make sure you voice fired off before you start casting or the Petrifaction light goes off before turning back. Auto face target off is really only beneficial for healers because they can actually heal without facing the target, which allows them to fire off their voice to petrify the Renaulds and heal at the same time.

I disabled auto face because when healing I would be using instants while moving, turn around and run into the bad stuff. Killed me a quite a few times until I disabled it. I'd like a per job setting.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I had less hassle with auto-face on than off when I did T7 as BLM. I played it safe though. I unlocked my target so my character's face wouldn't turn back at all. Then I locked back on my target after voice was cleared. Since I'll be kiting, though, this strategy I previously used will be problematic, especially on a PS3. I need to stay locked on the Renauld (even with voice). Can I still turn away even when I am locked on target? A better question: does voice go off according to the direction my character is turned to? Or according to the direction his eyes are staring? Sorry for all these questions, it'll be my first time kiting. We finally cleared t7 when we had a summoner pug kite for us instead of our bard. Since the summoner strat worked, I'll be kiting T7. So i am trying to get all these potential issues squared away for next week's run. Thanks again!

Voice goes off at the direction where your character is facing not where he is looking. I don't think you can turn away from a locked target as far as I know, I've never used lock target for this specific reason. I would recommend playing without locked target, since as a caster whenever you cast a spell if you have auto face target on, your character will turn and face the target anyways. Kiting the Renauld while having your target locked on him is also a bad idea since you won't be able to run as fast, this will severely hinder your ability to kite properly and setting the Renuald at an ideal location. This may also cause you to fire off voices at a undesirable direction while kiting petrifying your raid.

OMG, thank you guys so much for this important info! Many thanks to you as well KyrsIsley for clarifying that bit about voice direction. I feel a lot more confident now about kiting this. And oh, I meant auto-face target and not lock-target. (Blegh, I did away with that option the moment I discovered I could disable it. It was set on default for my R3 button. Any time I accidentally pressed down on my right stick I was locked-on and running slowly, often dying a second later. )

Anyway, I'm super relieved by these answers. Thanks again everyone for offering my your feedback and answers.

Yeah, only healers are unhindered by turning off face target because healing spells simply don't care which direction you're facing. If only attack spells could be the same way...

With comments like this I seriously wonder how people would even deal with other games of this type, where there is no such thing as auto face. And no, offensive magic still needs to be facing.
