Black Screen While Playing on PS3

My friend has an issue with FFXIV on PS3. Randomly durning play the screen will turn black like the photo below. It will remain black until I restart the game.... This is very frustrating because it happens frequently.

Well, as it turns out, this was a hardware issue. He had the old 80 GB console. He went and bought a new PS3, we did a complete data transfer from the old PS3, and the issue is gone.
