If you do not feel like playing a tank, got to a DPS guild and take a quest from the receptionist. Melee DPS classes are Pugilist (in Ul'Dah) and Lancer (in Gridania). Magic DPS classes are Thaumaturge (in Ul'Dah) and Arcanist (in Limsas Lominsa). Arcanist can also learn a healer job later.
