There's a fair chance I will not continue to play. I haven't done anything fun in the last two weeks and I completely refuse joining the Hunt FFXIV hysteria that has 90% of my server farming mind numbing content and teleporting from one place to another like soulless thralls.

I agree with everything except the melee point because positioning and moving around is what makes them fun at least for me, though I do agree with the way the game and servers handle positioning so that any small movement on the mob's part will cancel your skill, you get used to it and learn how to manage it but it's still annoying to deal with when it happens.
That's why I still get free Shoulder Tackles all the time, on your screen they might seem like they're facing a direction and aren't that far but for the server they're already way ahead and facing another position, not to mention any tiny bit of latency will throw off your off GCD abilities that you have to weave in, gets especially bad on Tuesdays.
I'd say vote with your wallet and don't let anyone guilt trip you into staying in a game you no longer enjoy, I mean with the amount of people that always spout "If you don't like it leave" you'd think they'd be ok with the game losing a couple of subs.

Everyone gets bored with same things after a while. you could take a break and see how it goes. If you quit, then that means all the work and time you've spent on your characeter is gone. So think about it carefully so you don't regret later.
When you queue up as a DPS, do you select all 4 languages before clicking "Join?" If not, then there is your problem right there. There are so many factors that are contributing to this...
1 - The first one is hunts. Queues have been severely damaged, if you are a tank or a healer it's not significantly noticeable, but if you are DPS it is. Also, they've trivialized everything.
2 - Atmas. I've gone through it, and not just once, but it saddens me how SE is deciding to go this line. SE doesn't understand that the majority of people did the Atmas because they hadn't a choice (despite most countertrolls think by saying "it's optional") but because the desire to get their next tier of their relic weapon was higher than the amount of boredom they had to put up with all the atma horror story.
Atma weapons are not worth it AT ALL. The soldiery stone weapons are faster to get and are about the same in terms of attack power. In terms of time spent getting weapons, this is a no brainier.
There is a reason why many games throughout history have had difficulty settings. I think the echo is a nice attempt (and i'll admit flawed) at adding a difficulty setting to the game. If you are one of those players that thinks a game has to be hard in order to be fun then I can't help you here.3 - Power Creep. It's happening so hard in this game I really want to cry...things like Stone Vigil HM or Hullbreaker Isle which are a complete joke in terms of difficulty literally destroy and triviallize stuff like Copperbell Mines HM, which by the way is significantly harder than the other 2. Also, you have these 3 primal EX fights which in my opinion require a lot of coordination and are extremely exciting and they've turned them into "mount, vanity" farm fights And then there's the ECHO to even leave them more behind. In terms of difficulty, T6 is not harder than Titan EX (without echo) yet one gives basically nothing and the other one nets you highest tier equipment. SE is releasing new content and blatantly throwing out from the window the older one.
This may come as a surprise but BRD is actually the weakest damage dealer out of all of the DPSs. It's true. It only seems that way because BRDs can keep moving while damage dealing *AND* attack from a distance. It may be consistent damage but it's still weak. A MNK or DRG while having inconsistent damage can pour out way more damage when they keep their damage consistent.4 - Melee Classes. Ridiculous. Why can a BRD parse a brutal amount of damage pressing 4 buttons (straight shot, venomous bite, windbite and heavy shot) with the occasional buffs and bloodletters and Melees have to deal with overly complicated rotations with FLANK AND REAR REQUIREMENTS. Now this is my MAIN complain. I don't mind the hard rotations, but what's this flank/rear business? Especially in a game where you can only reliably hit flanks and rears IF the enemy is standstill, there's no absolute way you can coordinate a flank/rear in a moving target, in fact, 90% of your attacks don't even land on moving targets forcing you to recast them (which puts melee classes even at a more disadvantage), let alone LANDING A FLANK/REAR hit on enemies that are moving. And then you have all the melee dangers which all the poor DRGs and MNKs have to deal with, no wonder they spend more time lying on the floor than fighting. When I see someone playing DRG or MNK, I feel bad for that person.
Also, I find it funny that in #3 you imply too easy but in #4 you imply too hard. Which is it then? Personally I think you just wanted attention.

I'm impressed by all the responses I got regarding melee classes. Guys, I did NOT say a BRD could bring more damage than a MNK. Maybe I didn't word it correctly. My point is that ranged DPS rotations seem to be exaggeratedly easy, with BLM and BRD coming on top, and SMN maybe being a bit more complicated but really...not so much. They just get away with all the melee dangers while doing a VERY NICE amount of damage. I bet you all think about T8 when you tell me that a BRD can never outdps a MNK, but what happens if the comparison is between a SMN and DRG? A SMN can perfectly outdps a DRG, with ranged damage, from a safe distance, with support spells like eye for an eye, virus and even a swiftcast ressurrection, and to make matters worse, SMN damage is infinite, because even if your mana drains to a say "dangerous point" you can always energy drain x3 and your mana is back. DPSing full strength with DRG eventually runs you out of TP, even with invigorate.

My concern with melee classes isn't that they are fun, but the fact they are VERY frustrating to play outside a static or outside a group of people you don't know. I no longer have a group of real life friends playing this, my brother left right after collecting the 12 atmas he felt burnout and my other 3 friends moved onto LoL and Dota II. There is a large portion of this player's database that is extremely casual, playing a melee classses with DF parties or even with PF parties is like tying a giant rock at your foot. Every single boss, I mean every single one you depend on the tank not being a fool. Stuff like Chimera which is a roflstomp with a BRD or a SMN trying it with MNK made me eat all the nails from both hands. Eventually the rear and flanks were all swarmed by these ice pools and I had no room other than Dhorme's Chimera front to hit it, so I kept getting flamethrowered. And this happens constantly, with almost everything. Please stop thinking the only scenario that exists in FFXIV is T8 where the avatar does not move and you can go Bruce Lee way with your MNK doing your 400-500 DPS.

I'm sorry, but have you even played a melee DPS class? The only way a bard's DPS can compete with melee DPS is if the bard pops all of his cooldowns.
That said, I love melee DPS - having to move around to achieve maximum damage is a hell of a lot more fun to me than sitting in one spot firing off more arrows than there should be in any quiver.

Dear OP, you should try playing FFXI, it may suits your taste better. Less moving all over the place. More grinds. And SE did their best turning FFXI into FF14 when it comes to ease of play. Every single months, updates galore, new things, adjustment etc. Just take a break from FF14, and come back when they announce next expansion. You won't miss much, but you will have plenty of stuffs to do when you are back.
