Recruit A Friend Help? Anyone?

My friend really wanted this mount and I wanted to do something nice for him, so I followed the instructions in his "Recruit A Friend" e-mail and registered a Square-Enix account via the link. I was locked out of services on Mog Station because I did not own the game, so I purchased it via Steam. The "Recruit a Friend" tab only gave me the option to send a code to someone else and the "Enter Bonus Code" tab required codes of 20 digits (my friend's code is 8 digits). So, I subscribed using my Steam Wallet thinking that I might be given the option to enter my friend's code then. My payment went through, but I was never given the option to enter any code.

I've spent over $44.99 on the game and $33.84 on a subscription.
My friend does not have his mount.
I can't create a character on his server to play the game with him because it is "Legacy" locked.
Support is closed over the weekend.

Any suggestions?

There is no "Legacy locked" worlds. The newest worlds may have restrictions on transfering to them from another world, and some worlds are so overpopulated that it's practically impossible to move to those worlds or create new characters there.

@Evangela: When and where is this code supposed to be entered. I've seen a few threads like this popping up so its a problem enough. What is the proper way to go about completing the Recruit-a-Friend process?
