All the new mmo's are mostly the same anyways with cartoon graphics, so its mostly preference cartoon graphics vs more realistic.

Has the best music scores and selection than any MMO on the market and slated to release in the next 2-3 years. Here's an honest question of great importance.
What do you think makes this game competitive with other MMOs. And what makes this game stand out?
We know this game is a bit of trainwreck, and many seem to argue they will fix it and relaunch it into a success. But think about that for a second. What does this game have to compete on?
It doesn't have voice acting in every quest.
It's behest and leve system can't really compete with the whole rift system.
It doesn't really have a functioning economy and with some people holding on to 100mil+, probably won't for years.
It doesn't have all the skanky costumes that seem to make many Free MMO's so popular.
Originally it had the ability to play as crafting or gathering as a main. And would have had the company system (enhanced linkshells/guilds), the ability to craft in groups, etc. But since Yoshi-P took over many of the creative things that would have made the game stand on its own have been removed.
I mean honestly, what will this game compete on? In almost every aspect it can't even hold up against FFXI pre-abyssea.
And please don't assume I'm trying to be negative or say this game will fail. I'm just curious what all the people who believe this game will be really successful think about this.
Personally I think this game stands out in the graphics department + in the music department. Other than that, I haven't read of anything that sounds overly unique coming anytime soon.

Right now? The only things making it unique are negative.
But sometime in the future, the class system, story, art direction, and cross-platform nature might pull it out of the hole its in. It certainly won't be combat and fight mechanics, because we've already made the decision of going from a terrible system to an average but passable system.
Competitiveness? They're trying to appeal to every audience now, so once the content gets fleshed out I think it will be fine in those regards. Competitive MMOs these days need to appeal to as many people as possible.
I completely agree with the PSvita thing. They already thinking about putting FFXI on there but I think the mechanics of FFXIV would make it a better fit for it.Don't know why people think this game stands out in the graphics section. It doesn't. Maybe compared to old MMOs, but definately not to the new ones and let's better not talk about non-MMOs xD
I think SE just forgot that times change. They hope the PS3 will save it but I have my doubts. Maybe they should release it for PSVita too(I would totally buy it again).
PS3 is the only hope they got otherwise.
It's funny how people keep saying give them time and wait for more updates. There have been MMOs that were fairly successful that came and gone in 1-2 years. FFXIV is almost at a year now and it's still awful.
SE will not keep this game alive for 30,000 subs, this is not League of Legends (I think LoL has more players than that actually).
When I originally heard about it, I was interested in playing it because I wanted an updated XI as I enjoyed it so much.
What I got was something that tried to use familiar characters from XI along with some experimental concepts that sort of fell flat on arrival. The game had no true goals, no sense of direction, no challenge, underdeveloped regions, and only vague ideas surrounding the systems already in place that the community was apparently supposed to develop.
But there was something that kept me interested, and that was the setting. Ezora is a world ripe with history and politics and that is excellent groundwork for some really compelling plot lines and quests.
However, all that aside, the game needs to revert to basic MMO principles before it can make any real innovative changes and additions and I believe that's what 1.18-1.20 are meant to do, set up a strong foundation the game can grow on. Using the setting and history as a vantage point, I'm confident they can make something very unique and rewarding for those invested in the game.
roaming primals... that don't roam!
think i'll just reply "Alot of potential".
we just have to wait & see.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
Yaaa, you know what yoshi said about making this game stand out!?! HUH!?! Well, lets find out!
Hey, yoshi! How will this game stand out from others?
"A: Final Fantasy XIV has a more unique game history and culture, which is a big factor *refers to Final Fantasy 8, Faye Wong singing “Eyes on Me”*. Korean MMORPGs focus too much on the game itself, but not about the real life culture surrounding it."
