My original in-game surname was "Alexander" because I played FFXI on the alexander server from NA release until 2008. Very familiar with old content. Very familiar with horizontal progression. The difference is, in FFXIV - a game with vertical progression, is that old content becomes outdated very quickly. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Its not some kind of truism. It just is what it is.

But you said every MMO ever. Not every vertical progression MMO. And my issue is that not all MMOs are vertical progression. Heck, FFXIV has spent more time with horizontal progression than vertical.
