    Level 50 Little buds

    Good time for a story.

I have only been level 50 for a few weeks. All the end game stuff I have learned from these boards, though I am at work when I am on these boards so I can't really retain everything I read. I am ALWAYS intimidated when I do anything level 50+ because as you will learn or already know, there is no tolerance for mistakes when you hit endgame.

As a monk I am supposed to do this rotation or that rotation and wear this specific equipment... WHAT!? It gets overwhelming and is honestly ruining the game for me to the point where I am going to take a break when my renewal is up. Anyways, on to my story.

I was doing Ultima's Bane for the first time. I had no idea what to expect. The round started and then BAM! There was a psycho healer:

Tank you are not equipped for this. Tanks you need to switch after 3 debuffs! DPS stay away from the AOEs! DPS your equipment...how are you even going to DO damage. Other healer you have quick cast right!? Everyone watched a youtube video before this right!? (Since when is watching youtube videos on how to play a game a thing? Uh, “back in my day” guides and what not were for n00bs and something NOT to be encouraged. When did that change???)

The healer went on and on. He had good advice but it was impossible to get a word in edgewise and he came off like such a jerk. I was scared to say I was new, but did anyways. At that point the healer freaked out and said we were doomed, I was certain he was just going to drop. To my surprise he didn't. (Probably because the DF queue for this fight is insanely long, mine was 70+ mins)

The fight starts and we wipe almost instantly. I mean it was a disaster. The healer went nuts, blamed everyone and their mom. We tried again, a little better but still a wipe. Nobody (except the healer, barking orders, saying we sucked, we should leave...blah blah blah) was talking, it seemed like everyone was overly stressed just trying to do what the healer was saying. It was insane, it wasn't any fun and it continued for 35+ minutes. We kept wiping the healer kept getting mad.

Finally we all figured out we were wasting our time, we barely had any left BUT at least we all learned more and more of the fight, we were doing better, each time that health bar got lower.
The healer was continuing: I have fought this 100 times and we never win because of these casual new people!
So I just replied: Maybe it's YOU!?

The entire party started laughing, it felt like a weight was lifted. I wasn't the only one being insanely stressed out by this guy. Then the healer asked how many times the rest of us had beat it.

    WE. WERE. ALL. NEW.*

The healer started putting us down, freaking out, we all tried again. WE MADE IT SOOOOO CLOSE, but still wiped.

The party was chatting now though, ignoring the healer, the stress was gone, we were all laughing at our luck, having FUN, we had 12-14 minutes left, echo was on our side but it was going to be close, the healer was trying to come up with some obscure plan and finally one of the tanks just yelled, "LEEROY JENKINNNNNNS!" and we all rushed to attack, while the healer cursed at us.

We were putting up such a good fight, then the "5 minutes left to complete" crossed our screens. People were using limit breaks WITHOUT THE HEALERS PERMISSION (GASP), there were dead bodies everywhere, 1 tank was down, I was running from AOEs, stupid orbs were exploding... it was so intense...

    Then...
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
WE FRICKEN WON! OMG! It was amazing. All us little level 50 newbs were freaking out. For some reason the healer was still insulting us. Even when we won, he was not happy!

The loot dropped, it was an Ulitma accessory, WHICH I SOMEHOW WON! The healer said, “I hate you all.” And left. (I give him props for staying and he did have good advice...but...wow)

Morale of this story, if your help is NOT helping, it probably isn't help. Just because someone is new to a dungeon/trial/guildhest/coil does not instantly mean failure. It might mean more work or time will be invested, but it DOES NOT mean failure.

I wish there was a little bud for all the new level 50s. It is scary out there.

*Not everyone replied, but about 5-6 people did.

Ok..for future reference, before trying DF..try to create a PF and toss at the title LEARNING PARTY!!!

If u stay alone on PF for 20+ min, give up and go to DF.

What u guys could have done is simply vote to dismiss healer. 7X1 would be a sure kick for him.

If its your first time, always tell everyone u're new. There are a lot of jerks out there, but there are many good people willing to teach how to play.

It would be pretty useful to get the equivalent of a level 50 bud on people the first time we go into a new duty. It would give a clear notice (on top of the myth bonus message) that someone should be asking whether anyone needs an explanation before starting a fight, especially when there are instant-wipe mechanics that multiple new players are going to be a part of.

I'm of two minds about this...

To start, NO ONE should ever pull a "You suck" on ANYONE. period. (I have a no "you suck" policy in my FC. XD) I don't believe YT is required viewing for everything in this game (that's a big debate here.)

BUT, for the love of eorzea... learn your job by the time you are level 50! TT_TT There are many threads over in the DoW subforum about your skills and how to use them (also what equipment is good to work towards). If you are confused, ask. There are dungeons, quests, and hests there to learn your role. FCs and LSs are there to provide assistance as well. Even if you are brand spanking new to a fight, that's okay! Knowing your role (and to get out of the red) is 80% done!

    Good luck!

Besides the "I hate you all" part, which sounds made up to me, nothing the healer said was wrong. This is the reason I don't readily give advice to new people. They tend to rip your face off for telling them the truth and trying to help, no matter how nicely you word things.

edit: Let me be more clear. I'm guessing that you're dramatizing some of the things he or she said. The advice s/he gave(that you told us) without the added sass was solid.

I have only beat the fight once, its insanely hard for what it is (well was when i ran it) main thing is not to use a lb until last set of orbs things and then the tank uses it.

Its not so much most of the time that they yell at you, its that they just don't seem to listen. I've healed parties of new people through lots of dungeons and explained mechanics so they don't get hit and some run right into them, repeatedly. Sure there is a learning curve with being told how something works to seeing it for yourself, but when they don't even talk in chat or ask questions its hard to know if you even got through to them. On the flip side there are people who do talk in chat and are friendly and those people get my commendations, the others I tell my LS that no one in a run deserves one.
