someone sold NQ millioncorn in MB for 1k each. they normally sell for 300.the only reason this happedned is because there is no corn being sold at all. i put HQ up for 1k and NQ for 600. if someone puts it back at the normal prics, and thees enough of it, ill change my prices.

what im trying to tell you is, pay attention to the market, and if the only thing you can do is sell the regularly higher priced items, then you fail as a business person. someone was able to make 6k from one lv 25 node, because he watched the market. put yours up for cheaper, if you want, and look at the amounts being sold for other items. dont be fixated on on e item because it normally sells 2k each, and ignore the 300gil millioncorn because it sells for 300.

I hate to be that guy but if the market board worked like it did in XI, it'd fix the problem of undercutting to some extent.

Nope. If there is current quantity & a lot of recent activity, I still set my AH prices lower than the last sold price. I would rather have my product sell fast & first.

You could, but the fun with FF11 AH is whether other people caught you undercutting or no. Technically, you can set your item to be sell @ 1g as long as others didnt catch you. This is where the fun part is.

I was pretty good at catching these undercutters and relist it at higher price. I rip off their profits into my gain. For example, an item is sell for 2k on AH, these undercutters try to sell fast and list it as 500. I caught them and relist their items as 1,800. I gain 1,300 but they are taking the loss.

Well, as a buyer, I place starting bids lower than the lowest sale price & work my way up. Often enough, I'll get find a seller with a similar strategy as myself: they want to clear their inventory. In FFXI you want you stuff to sell on the first go, rather than keep paying the listing fee to put the same thing back on auction after the time limit.

If there are 10 non-stacking items available & the last price was 20,000, I'll start my bidding at 15k-18k. Almost always saves a few gil.

    Actually. Yup.

Actually it would reduce the undercutting by a great deal because the price is hidden, and people would only go off the price history. Frankly, I feel that the market could thrive a great deal more this way.

Actually, nope, but go ahead & buy off the last price. You're wasting gil. I undercut all the time AND pay less listing fees while still getting full or close to that sell price. I sell first & pay less. That's a win-win.

I think FFXI AH was the best system.
It had only one flaw: you can only list 7 items at a time
It's a flaw that can be easily fixed making the FFXI AH the perfect way to go for the MB in FFXIV

There is no such thing as "destroying market by massively undercutting". You can destroy profits, but you can't destroy market itself. Actually massive undercutting leads to a temporal surge in interest as the cheaper items are, the more interest in them. And there is always a reason to undercut, the simplest one is a desire to sell item faster than other sellers.
One acquaintance of mine explicitly undercut food she makes even when "it's not needed". She intentionally lowers her margins to increase liquidity (the lower the price, the more ppl buy food) and she earns huge amount of money this way.
