Viability of Lancer as a Tank?

Lancer can tank fine, but you need some cross class skills, which is the point of the Armoury system.

I can tank just fine with the proper Defense + HP armor and the Following cross-skills and traits:

Defender, Foresight, Featherfoot. Plus Jarring Strike, Fracture, Provoke/Taunt/Warmonger. And i mix a few more defensive abilities with some key lancer skills.

Then for traits equip Intimidate, Prime Conditioning, Driven by Faith and Complete Control (unless there is casters involved). I'd add Axemanship if i had it, for obvious reasons.

Then get a good thaumaturge to get transfer you DEF and EVA and you're set.


tl;dr : it's doable but requires some work and a good THM

Your tanking what fine with your 35 lancer? try tanking an nm...you'll break like glass, even with all those defense abilites from other classes. also you'll want defender II which is a mrd 50 ability at which point you'de just tank as mrd50 anyhow. =p

Yeah I gotta agree. I love my lancer yes it's true, but in the long stretch we are a support role. Not a tank role.

Why would you want to tank as a Lancer. Besides being a mana sink you'd be stealing to many base skills from other classes just to try and keep hate on you. You'd be better off being using a standard tank class than trying to build one out of a DD class.

what you really need to do as a 50 lancer is to NOT tank. towards the end of fights i'll end up pulling hate just because of all the constant skill stacking.

Funny, LNC has the lowest HP per VIT in all DoW. Yes, lower than ARC. How do you think LNC will be a tank?

you could probably pull off lancer tank if you really really wanted to, but you would have to be 100% invested in it. right now offtank/damage dealer/ crowd-control-that-never-activates-his-skills-on-time-to-actually-protect-anybody-with-his-crowd -control-because-of-server-side-combat-handling-and-crowd-control-tied-to-tp-skills are the ideal roles

tanking is just not meant for LNC imo. Were good @ distracting, using diversion, say till real tank is ready to tank, and pretty darn good in assisting.

I don't want to tank though I do keep rampart on my bar in case everyone dies so I can pop it and save the day =D

As others have said, Lancers CAN tank but I wouldn't suggest it. They've got no native tank skills but they do have a few enmity mitigation skills. They're more of a melee support/enfeeblement class, of course in addition to doing a good deal of damage.
