A Very Cherry Bomb (Moonfire Faire) - help with bombard blank

I am unable to finish the Moonfire Faire quest in Middle La Noscea. The quest is given by J`nangho at 22-22 and motars are at either 23-23 or 22-19. When I attack a Bombard Blank into a motar nothing happens at either location. What am I missing?

This event is slightly tricky if you don't know what to look for - you have to propel the bombard blanks into the mortars, which are those small platform things with the coloured pipes sticking out of them scattered around the same area.

The mortars cannot be targeted though, so you have to be somewhat creative in getting the bombard to face away from the mortar but towards you, so that when you attack it, your attack will send it straight into the mortar, destroying it. It may take a few tries though, and luckily you only need to get one in the mortar to complete it.

I was disappointed not seeing a firework launching cut scene when I completed this

I think a more clear explanation is: the bombs need to stop on the cannons, not just pass through them.
