    Participating when on a PS3...

    Is there a way to record video of FFXIV while playing on the PS3? I've heard of various HDMI/cable connections to a PC, but is that the only method? I've also seen that the data itself may be encoded, causing trouble with recording from PS3 to PC.

    Is there a way to do it? I'd love to participate, but don't have access to the PC version.

    Thanks for pulling that out.
    I'm confused though "You may only use music as it is incorporated in FFXIV"....
    so if I'm taking a bunch of clips, I can't edit the music out of them??? That will sound like a weird cacophony lol...
    Or say I have the game soundtrack, and I pick track 5 - can I then put that track over the whole video with various clips that may have had "other" bgms on them that I muted?

    Seems kind of confusing.

    I think the ps3 still prevents capturing with hdmi, so you'll need a capture card that can record component/composite. I use a Happauge to capture footage, but you may find cheaper alternatives such as Dazzle.

    Thanks for that -- couldn't find those lines on my phone. The "You may only use music as it is incorporated in <game>" rule screwed me for the FFXI FanFest2007 contest. :|

    Sorry, I could only enter as much text as I was allowed, and I couldn't edit my previous post.

    My interpretation of the rules I posted above are this: you can't replace the in-game audio at all, whether it is with FFXIV music or third party music. You must present the audio as-is, although you CAN add more sound to it... such as voiceovers (like you hear in tutorial/walkthrough videos), OR mute it completely. If I am wrong in what I'm saying, community reps please correct me. I'd hate to see people disqualified for not interpreting the rules correctly.

    I was really hoping SE would amend these rules for this contest alone, but I guess not. Best of luck to the entrants -- be careful to follow the rules.

    I've not done an FF Video since the FFXI days, but basically, as long as the music is music from the game, it should be fine. Looking at the videos submitted for previous contests confirm this, for me

    Are we allowed to modify in-game footage like using After Effects or other video editing software (to add effects, color correction, time adjusting, etc.) or are we limited to what Windows Movie Maker can do?

    If I'm interpreting it right, then no after effects or color correction.
    So, it is just editing vanilla video and audio material, with the exception to players' voice-overs.
    General Guidelines
    • You may not materially alter or modify the Materials, except:
      You may add your own voice-over, and you may edit, combine, mash-up, mix and match the Materials with other FFXIV Materials;
