Not sure if I should start a new thread for this but I have been facing this issue as well. On my PC, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 card.
I am able to load the Launcher and press the play button.
The game loads into full screen. Once the full screen loads, I get a small box that asks me to Calibrate Controller (even pops if my controller is unplugged) and I have the menu displayed but only with "START; DATA CENTRE; CONFIGURATIONS & EXIT" Options. The Opening Movie option is missing. When I select Start, it loads into the "Select Datacentre" screen and I choose the one for mine (Chaos).
It then attempts to connect to the Data Centre and then fails displaying "The Lobby Server Connection has encountered an error".
Game then exits.
I've disabled my firewall, disable all anti-virus and anti-malware but nothing has worked.
I've also ran full system scans, and cleaned out a few minor malwares succesfully, but still nothing.
Also rollbacked the Graphics Card Driver to v335 (it installed v340.52 on 30th July), tried and then nothing. (This Driver update apparently has some relevancy to the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (China) version apparently, my copy was purchased in UK.
Windows has been system restored to 15th July as this was the last time it started working, but this didn't do anything either.
Game has been re-installed and updated, but still I'm encountering the same error.
Currently I'm in the process of updating the Graphics Drivers back to 340.52 and trying again.
I have a feeling that the missing Option of the "Opening Movie" may have to do something? It's a bit odd its missing and am just wondering if the game is unable to connect if it cant play that.
If anyone has any suggestion, this would be most helpful as I've not been able to feed my crafting addiction for over 10 days now

i really dont get this cuz i can access my account at my wifes grandparents house but i cant here. it makes no sense what so ever. there has to be something that is causing this to happen but what? just put the router she was using and got the same thing. im so confused atm. did my internet provider block ffxiv?

Ragnarok and Moogle Servers are both experiencing 2002 now as well on the Chaos Data Center . Me and my friend are unable to log onto them and we're from different areas ... A few hours of trying and the same error for both of us.

You: yes. and we have 5 accounts in this house and all of them get the same error

You: wireless
Agent Adam E: And are all attempts with all accounts on wireless?
You: yes. i have also tried a different router. we randomly got 90000 error and then after that 2002 every time
Agent Adam E: Is it possible to plug directly in to the modem/router?
You: not with how far away it is. i have checked all setting or router and i have reset it to the defaults to make sure.
Agent Adam E: And what type of connection do you have (DSL, Cable, Satellite, etc) and how is your Internet Service Provider?
You: DSL and we have had the same provider for years. never had any issues before
You: other than the internet is kinda slow. pretty much just fast enough to play lol
Agent Adam E: Then the best option to try right now will be as follows:
Unplug the modem/router and leave it off for 10-15 minutes
Contact your ISP, and ask them to open and forward the port ranges I am about to give you.
Agent Adam E: The port ranges are

You: so that is all you can tell me is that it has to be on my end? there are 30 plus players on the forums with the same problem
Agent Adam E: And almost every single time, it turns out to be an issue with the ports not being opened.
You: so what makes them close after a year. because it was working fine like 3 days ago
Agent Adam E: Another thing is that we do not really support wireless connections, since they are not stable enough.
Agent Adam E: If the ISP makes any changes in their system, it could close ports.
Agent Adam E: This is the first step and easiest way to fix the issue, if it does not work, contact us back and we will explore other options.
You: and wait another hour or close to it to get someone
ok i figured mine out. here is something to check. log into your modem and make sure that your firewall on you modem is set to off

.....wow just wow. i'm done with square. I'm so fucking done now. You don't support wireless? Oh excuse me i'm sorry that everyone around the world has access to wireless connections and in the homes they live in they don't always have access to lan due to range or location of modem. Wow thanks square that's a really big Slap in the face to everyone that uses wireless connections.
