Replays?

I'd like to pose the concept of a replay feature for boss fights.

I envision the feature working like this:
Over the course of a trial each attempt could be individually saved to the server. These attempts would be numbered and at any time during a trial you could open the replay menu to see what attempt you're on. At the end of a trial before exiting you would have the option of selecting attempts to download to your local client. Once everyone leaves the trial all replays of the fights would be deleted from the server.

Viewer:
When viewing replays you could select any player and see a time-stamped log of abilities being used and who is being targetted when applicable. The camera could be set at any angle for screenshots and video clips.

With this feature Youtube guides could be a lot better and easier to make. Replays could be shared amongst the community for training, allowing players the ability to see detailed demonstrations of every job.

It would be nice if this could be done.
The amount of data to manage necessary for this to work wouldn't be small, the client would have to gather whatever was sent/received from the server for each character (to make something client side only) to replicate every action.

well, theres actually quite a few recording programs out there, and its really these that do it, theres very few games that even do any recordings, cant recall the last one that did it, recorded footage requires processing the data and then compression, since files are quite huge, if you want to be able to see attempts as you say, then you prob have to invest in a recording program im afraid.
You are prob wondering that recorded footage tends to contain kills, well even for our group, for attempts that matter I keep and upload to our group so we can talk over what went wrong and good etc and why we wiped. I think PS4 users have access to twitch, twitch lets you save footage, dunno its limits though, for PS3 users, they are at a direct disadvantage here, unless they invest in external recording equipment to do it, and its usually not the cheapest.

Fraps
Bandicam
Mirrilis (or something like that action)
OBS - requires a bit of tinkering
Playclaw - from steam

Only OBS here is free but isnt designed for local recording, its designed foremost to stream, rest must be paid for, and if you like the software, please pay for it, the programs are decent and worth the money.
Ive used Fraps before, but now use Bandicam since it has a specific feature that works for me on my set up.

From here, if you want quick footage to render and free is Handbrake, this doesnt let you edit, but does produce decent enough renders and small files to upload easily.
Otherwise get something like Sony movie studio 12 platinum HD for edits and renders and is cheap too.
