    DRG or MNK?

    Hi guys,

Once I get my WHM straightened out, I want to level a DPS class. I've decided on DRG or MNK, but I'm having a hard time picking one over the other.

I'll be playing PS4, with a controller. Is there one that's better suited to controller than the other? One that's easier to understand? I've read through both the Monk Rotation and A Rotation Reborn (DRG), but they use quite a bit of acronyms for the skill names, and since I haven't played either, they're rather confusing.

    Thanks!

You'll need to level pugilist and lancer either way for both of them just for cross-class skills, so pick the one you end up liking more while playing. Both are very good if played correctly.

If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.

Honestly you will need to level both of them up a bit to make use of the cross-class skills. Dragoon can use Second Wind, Featherfoot, Mantra, Internal Release from the Pugilist class. Monk can use Blood for Blood, Invigorate from Lancer. Plus a few that don't really have much use for either..

I've played DRG quite a bit longer than Monk, personally I like DRG more but MNK has grown on me. The DRG rotation is straight forward, MNK is a bit more fluid and fast-paced. The main difference is MNK is a high sustained damage dealer, DRG relies on burst damage and has stronger AoE attacks.

Also, it's hard to get a feel for the classes in early levels. You're moves are limited, gear is limited, mechanics are limited. If you have the time to level both it's worth it just to be flexible (plus RNG loot drops, maybe you get more MNK gear or more DRG gear). Both of them are really good classes, though the ceiling (and therefore difficulty to master) is much higher on Monk.

Regarding rotations.. They won't make a lot of sense until you start playing the classes, once you have some time on the classes, go back and read and it will make a lot more sense

Oh yea, and controller is fine for both classes. I find it quite a bit harder to heal on controller, but for the melee and tanks it's like playing God of War or something

I would argue that for Dragoon, a controller is actually easier than a traditional MMO keyboard because it's much easier to rapidly reposition yourself while using skills. I imagine Monk would be similar.

As stated above, both classes are needed for a good end a me and you'll have to level past 30 to get the cross class abilities. Personally I chose monk for my dps class and enjoy it thoroughly. Since I've only really only played monk the difference is vague from what I've been told by others in my fc. Monks have more of a rotation and a little bit of a harder time with situational awareness and doesn't have as much of an aoe's presence that dragoon has but if you can get the rotations down and are able to silence throughout turn 2 (for example) then the class can be fun.
