Actually Novus is SCH's BiS until you get High Allagan tome, for example. And let's be honest, it isn't easy. Everyone's talking about High Allagan weapons as if they were accessible to everyone. So yes, even if it costs you a lot, I would rather make the best of it than a half assed stat one.

Yes it is. Remember that you're not dpsing alone. Besides, what else are you gonna spend your Gil on? people sit on millions of gil because there's nothing really worth to buy in FFXIV economy other than materia (talking about items that require time farming gil) and furnitures I guess?

As I mentioned before - a BLM can easily do 400+ DPS on the highest levels of content. 1 to 2 dps is literally an extra second worth of damage every 4 to 5 minutes of spamming spells. It won't be noticeable in the slightest. The fact that a BLM is going to be dodging AOES -only means it's going to take much longer to gain that one extra second of dmg. You could easily go an entire boss battle and not see it. And if you do see it...nobody will notice.

I'd find the argument more convincing if there was actually content in the game that merited that kind of gearing up, but there isn't.
