Am I missing something about Novus?

Novus also gives you the stats you want over what the end game high allagan provides. Such as the case for my whm, I do not like ssp and could use something other than crit, so a novus with pie/determ far suits me better even if the high allagan has 2 spell power more.
And since there isn't a large gil sink for people who craft/obtain most items they want, dropping a few million isn't such a bad thing. In addition the live letters have stated the relics will eventually be the best thing in game like the "Excalibur" for your class. So working toward that eventual goal could prove useful while a majority of the player base is at the same pace/place IE atma and fates. Trying to do fates for atma now takes weeks where as when it first released hoards of ppl crushed fates making it possible to get all 12 in 20hrs or less.

Re: gil sink... Actually, buying materia on the MB isn't a gil sink. It is just moving the gil from one player to another, minus the tax. Now, if we purchased them from vendors, yes that would be a huge gil sink like housing.

For me, I love Crit, so that's getting maxed. I know I could raise other stats, but I love seeing occasionally high Festers. The rest is going into Det, and as much as I don't like spending the gil... why on earth do I craft so much if I'm not going to be spending my gil on anything?

Anyone who thinks those 6-10 ish stats are worth the cost of T4 balls are silly. Besides, Yoshi said that we'd be able to reset our novus stats in the future.

Actually Novus is SCH's BiS until you get High Allagan tome, for example. And let's be honest, it isn't easy. Everyone's talking about High Allagan weapons as if they were accessible to everyone. So yes, even if it costs you a lot, I would rather make the best of it than a half assed stat one.

Even if you cannot obtain a HA weapon, is an increase of 1-2 dps really worth 10m? For some it might be, for others it's negligible.

Yes it is. Remember that you're not dpsing alone. Besides, what else are you gonna spend your Gil on? people sit on millions of gil because there's nothing really worth to buy in FFXIV economy other than materia (talking about items that require time farming gil) and furnitures I guess?

As I mentioned before - a BLM can easily do 400+ DPS on the highest levels of content. 1 to 2 dps is literally an extra second worth of damage every 4 to 5 minutes of spamming spells. It won't be noticeable in the slightest. The fact that a BLM is going to be dodging AOES -only means it's going to take much longer to gain that one extra second of dmg. You could easily go an entire boss battle and not see it. And if you do see it...nobody will notice.

I'd find the argument more convincing if there was actually content in the game that merited that kind of gearing up, but there isn't.

It's fine if you would rather have it, as long as you don't act like anyone not concerned with the < 1% difference their significantly cheaper build makes any difference in actually running content.
