Novus and relic quest is fun because it's some king of long-therm progress, something this game sorelly lack, but given that gears get updated every 3 months, it's not worth spending more than 1 milion or 2, imo.

I wanted to put int on my lance because drgs are stoopit and need smarts.... but couldn't figure out how to because of fore mentioned drgness. (It is just a joke relax)
On a serious note most people min/max regardless of the cost as:
That is what they are told as best and take it as is without research,
Truly want to min/max and don't care what it costs,
And/or have so much gil/flow that the 10m cost can be recouped in short order
Last but not least, some people like prada, some like coach, they both do the same job that a grocery bag can do that costs less than a penny. The mark up on fashion can be quite high but people still pay it.

Let's say for a moment I want to do the Wiyu Novus. Outside of Det and Crit, what else could be used if i wanted to go say 30/30/15?

Accuracy.
SMNs need higher accuracy for their Egis to be at 100% so Novus is a great way of squeezing in an extra accessory's worth of acc.

While yes that is true, a pet who only misses a couple times is only losing literally a couple dps. Its more important to just have yourself capped and add more damage for you.

Det IV on my server is at 650-800K. That's about how much I would spend on the entire Accuracy set lol
Also secondary stats are a bit easier to push around. I can exchange accuracy on another piece of gear instead.
Really the bonus to Novus is that it avoids the typical stat weights, so maxing out Det or Piety allows you to get the most out of your weapon. For instance, take a look at Unweathered Book of Spades vs. Crit/Det Novus. You can add in 13 more points of crit. That's significant, but is it 10 mil gil significant? Up to you...

I just mean its usually a better idea as smn to not worry about pet acc cap in general. For price though and if your doing novice it probably isn't a bad choice or you can change another piece from something that had acc to something that has 2 dmg stats.
That's actually been discussed before and proven wrong. Pet accuracy cap is more important than a few more determination and crit.

Our groups summoner tested and his pet would miss 2 or 3 times during fights non accuracy capped. If you can add 15 or 20 det or something over the course of a fight your going to do a lot more damage then your 3 missed pet attacks.
Sorry, I guess I'm kind of a newb, could anyone give me a link to that universally accepted DMG calculator? I'll reach the Novus step too and I've been wondering about how to upgrade my Gae Bolg Novus efficiently within a limited (3 million) budget.
