They promised Primals would be able to be captured and then summoned by FCs since the very first 2.0 info days, then like a lot the things they promised back then they went silent about it and it never happened. Recently they mentioned they're still looking into it because it has to "fit with the story", that's a code word for it got delayed until the expansion or later.

Unless it is strictly bound to summoners of the FC I feel that'd mock summoners and their digimon pocket monster thingy. Assuming you could use it in dungeons (what open world content would you need a primal for), wonder how easy mode or broken it would make some of the fights (specially those that rely on HP markers for phases).

Use limit break and primals together to make savage extreme ultimate pain train mode, where all phases are at once - insanity for 3 minutes.

I was kinda expecting it to be related to Frontlines back then, an alliance wide LB of sorts, then the GC restrictions happened and also the fact we still can't form alliances in the open world. They could also be used in dungeons and maybe meaningful open world content, whenever that happens. It always sounded like it was a independent thing from Summoners but like a lot of the things they promised back then they were vague enough to get away with stuff still not being implemented.

I suspect what he actually said/meant was that it looked "cheap" when these avatars got defeated by run of the mill monsters. Most Decent Challenge monsters would kill your avatar quite fast, because they were ridiculously weak unless you used something like Predator Claws.

But I don't think these new egi in FFXIV are near as bad. You can have Titan tank Fates without much issue, so he could surely look like the real Titan and show how he can stand his ground against big "HNM" out in the world. There is no longer a cheapness feel around them, so there is no longer any need to change their looks.

As a fan of spirits I kind of like their idea to combine them, but the cost of losing the familiar design of the Primals is too much. It is like being handed a wonderful Porsche, except it is remodeled into a truck because "The designer didn't like the weak look of normal cars and wanted a really tough look like a truck".
