It is super easy but just note, when I went from PS3 to PS4 (last Friday!) my hot bars and other settings did not transfer. While all my items went over just fine, none of my saved equipment sets were there so I had to redo them as well. Kind of a pain in the butt, but now that it is done it was not that big of a deal. (I thought it was at the time though, thus the warning)

To avoid this go to your ps3 load up the game but before you enter your password there is an option in the bottom right to transfer character data from ps3 to ps4 this transfers all the locally saved data like hot bars and gear sets which you can then access on your ps4.
