    Expanding Eorzea

    Hey guys,

So I was just running around Eorzea, looking for a hunt to kill... when I ran into yet another invisible wall. This got me thinking, why don't SE expand the current realm?

    A couple of examples below:

East Shroud, how about the ability to fall off the roots in the Sylphlands, and have to navigate the East Shroud Undergrowth.

La Noscea, there were loads of underground caverns back in 1.0 (Shposhae!), why can't we get access to them again, maybe as mini-dungeons in the openworld (jump puzzles, challenges etc)

Perhaps they could link hidden areas like this to Treasure Maps, and even the Hunts? A Treasure Map leads you deep into the Shpo Shae caverns, to find a chest buried deep within... A rare Hunt has been sighted leading back to it's lair, ambush it in it's sleep!

There are loads of areas that should be expanded on within Eorzea... let's discuss!

Expanding the world usual comes with expansions and not updates. Im sure with the first expansion we will get plenty more open world areas with more of the same nothing to do in them.

Revenant's Toll, Beast Tribe Camps. They've already shown they can add new areas in updates. I'm not talking about adding brand new zones, I'm talking about removing the invisible walls and adding extra space to the existing zones.

And the fact that there is nothing to do in them as you say... I mentioned 2 ways that existing content could be integrated into new areas in existing zones if they were to be added. And I'm pretty sure that SE will continue to add open world content such as the Hunt, Levequests, Dailies, Treasure Maps and FATEs.

I'd love if they expand current zones and add jumping puzzles, though that would require an overhaul of the jumping mechanic.

I think jumping puzzles would be really cool to add, I believe Yoshi has been quoted as saying he would have liked to add them in if he had 6 months more dev time before release as well...

I would just love for the different areas to have more depth in all honesty, cave systems, perhaps rafts/canoes to traverse rivers and lakes, special areas that require a chocobo's jump (maybe to come from raising/racing as a special ability)

I would like to hear what other people think about this, and hopefully spark some conversation about how others would want to Expand Eorzea?

Black Boar gate goes around the eastern eorzean coastline up to ala mhigo from what I understand. It's "Closed until further notice." So, we'll see. There's also the eastern continent of Hydaelyn, which is currently under Garlemald jurisdiction. We can always have a mission to go and help liberate it, and have a new ally when we push north to Garlemald itself.

There also might be time travel in the future, since from what I understand, Coil Savage Mode uses the old FFXIV 1.0 "Answers" World Map music (That ghostly/echo version) that played during the final hours of FFXIV 1.0. The track was re-added in Patch 2.3, so I assume coil savage uses it.

Let's also not forget the void world, where <spoilers> next occurs.

Ishgarde and a whole slew of new quests like, a dozen or more, will present itself soon I'm sure. Shiva being the last "Hostile" primal also bodes well for expansions.

Those aren't really new areas, so much as altered current areas. Adding and deleting things to already existing areas, yet everything that has been added to current zones is only really been minor alterations. If you actually look at the size of what's been altered they haven't really added or removed anything huge. I don't even consider the Revenant's Toll overhaul to be that big. Now, if it went from how it was at lanch to how it looks now, you might just get a shock at how much has changed there. But it's slowly been getting added to and changed with every major update so far and each individual change hasn't really been too extensive from the way it was before the previous change.

They aren't/haven't completely overhauled any existing zones.

New areas would be, going beyond the Steps of Faith or Snowcloak in Coerthas to a new zone/area. Or going beyond that closed gate in Central Thanalan that lies directly south of the Gate of Thal.

I believe the snowcloak gate is the Shiva Instance or something. Steps of Faith goes to ishgarde, again, if you did the last storyline quest in 2.3, you'd know that that's coming really soon, both of them. Yoshida said in a recent live letter, they have things planned 4 years in advanced (Up to Version 4.0 and the second expansion.)

unless they are actually going to add content, there's no reason to expand existing areas.

they should do that though, add a quest line that involves a specific part of the over world every patch. maybe they can do that after they finish with the beastmen dailies.

They're adding the ixali beast tribe quests next iirc. There's also a new beast tribe shown in the 3D Model systems, as well as "All-red" Chocobos with beast tribe saddles. There will also be a new quest added for if you have max reputation with all four current beast tribes.
