Hunts are the best thing to happen to XIV's community since launch

I know this may attract some strong views, but I think the introduction of Notorious Monsters has been a blessing to the community in this game.

Alright, I know the first couple of weeks were rough with people accusing others of Botting, Blisting early pullers etc, but that's all calmed down now.

Now when I log on, I get in a party with 7 people I don't know, or 7 people whom I have friend listed from previous hunts. I get to know which guys are the fun guys, which are the dicks and the most important part? I will see these people again.

I won't get to know them as well as my static, but they won't disappear into the aether either. I'm beginning to know more and more of the community around me.

Your sentiments were my initial impressions as well. I was actually interacting with people outside of my FC/social circle to band together to participate in these hunts. Yes, the initial release of it has been pretty rocky, but it has been nice to see random people band together to take down things in the open world.

The patch tomorrow morning is still shrouded in mystery, but I hope it'll be an improvement for everyone. Right now my server has one guy and essentially his entire FC blackballed, (probably for a silly reason. seems like there's a "that guy" on every server) and then there's another guy who's a notorious early puller. Apart from these things, people are willing to work together for the most part to ensure that as many people as possible can get credit.

The problem with them is the rewards. Not the impact of human nature on the system. Great you made friends. They could have done the same thing without giving broken amounts of rewards from a mindless and 0 challenge task.

But this is an MMO, the most important thing to me isn't the difficulty of the challenge, it's the fun along the way.

Personally I prefer making friends and having a fun afternoon/evening running around the world. I understand others may prefer to have their 8 man static and be content to raid solely with them.

To each their own, but personally I think I'm in the right genre to find *my* kind of fun.

First I will agree that there has been a higher trend towards "getting to know you server community" since hunts came around. People have had to band together to get this stuff done and it really forces the community to understand itself in a way it didn't need to up to this point. This was something sorely lacking due to the fact of cross-server Duty Finder implementation.

Unfortunately, that really does mean you're going to find out really fast just how many jerks you actually have on your server. Thankfully, it also means you're going to find out who the best people for you to engage with on your server are.

The issue that hunts brought forth was mostly due to this, because the servers were so fragmented because there never really was any need to get to know anyone outside of you FC or LS, it immediately set in a huge amount of culture shock. People didn't know how to deal with the server and so you end up with a situation like throwing a bunch of unsocialized children (no offense intended towards anyone specifically) into a room together and give them a tray of cookies to share. There's going to be fighting and yelling and crying. People will be uncomfortable, be hurt and generally complain... Until we see what we're seeing now as groups take shape and the unspoken rules form.

Do I think this way the best way to go about it? No, I think that the servers should have been singular to begin with... A few months to a year where you can only play with the people around you, then open up the DF to inter-server... Which would be less traumatic in the long run though still rocky. The problem, however, was that they needed to open up the DF to start to deal with the massive Tank/Healer shortage due to the initial class imbalance.

Except that it hasn't calmed down. People still rage after every mark has been downed. People intentionally reset the marks, even when the horde (lok'tar o'gar) is already there. And I've witnessed some of these participants mock you for wanting to join a party. It's not like when you're about to participate in a Behemoth or Odin FATE, where you ask to join a group and someone sends an invite. It's more like "NO! MINE! MINE! MINE! MINE! MINE!" with some of these participants.

Now I have no negative feelings regarding the elite hunts themselves, it's the people.

There will always be these. Entitlement mentality. "It is available for me to have therefore it is my right to have it no matter where it may be or if I am even there to have it." Aka: "I'm going away for a week, don't eat my cake."

I honestly have to wonder if this is a server/time thing, to be frank. I've had far less trouble running things on Malboro on off-peak hours. And there are ways to get around this too; lately when I stumble on a mark or hear a shout for one that I'm close enough to get to, I've taken to immediately start flinging out invites of my own to anyone I see calling for one. That way the "stragglers" end up all banding together as they make their way to the mark.

Yes, I agree with this 100%. It's like people are staving to death and everyone is fighting over a piece of meat *DOGPILE*!

I also feel like it's Black Friday everyday, hordes of people stampeding all over you and grabbing something you already grabbed. IT'S MINE I SAW IT FIRST! Just for the sales XD.

Maybe SE should make the hunts less appealing? like take some of the eye candy rewards? Seems like a loss cause with this community :/.
