About fragrant logs

A quick question about fragrant logs. My equipment isn't that good yet and a chance to gather the logs is 0%. However, the chance for HQ is 31% (with buff). Can I still gather the HQ ones even though the chances for NQ are 0%? I've tried several times but never got anything. So I'm not sure, is it just bad luck or is my equip still too bad?

As Adler said - You need to be able to gather before you can start thinking of having a chance at HQ. So 0% chance well.. you do the math.

If your equipement isn't that good yet, I would try to concentrate on the first steps - Being able to gather 1 star items HQ so that you can get your new tools and Forager's hat.

That should help.

For 1-star you need 370 Gathering and if you want HQ 1% (to unlock the chances) you need 332 Perception.

The more the better.

I think it's equipment iLvl 55 first, HQ of course. Then you will have to meld Gathering, Perception and GP (you can use food for that last one, once you reach the minimum numbers on the first 2 stats)

Then you can try to gear up so that you can "attack" 2-Star nodes.

This is where Adler stated you need 408 Gathering. Same here, if you want to unlock the HQ chances, you would need 389 Perception.

After that, you can try to get at least 600 GP since 300 goes first just to unlock the node. Then if your gathering number is decent, you should get let's say 89% gathering chance (which I have atm on my Miner ^^) so your 300 other GP left, you could use the 30% HQ boost, giving you a base of 31% chance to get HQ.

Remember it's not 100% gathering, so you might fail having even NQ.

But for our sake, it's HQ we are striving for.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm at 348G/336P now, just need a little bit more to be able to get the 1 star stuff. Materia is insanely expensive now so it takes a while to overmeld. By the way, is it even profitable getting your max meld and gathering 2 star items? Do they sell well?

HQ spinach quiche will get you +24, FC buff will get you +10.

There's not much for 2-star botany that sells. Bamboo sticks were high early but are barely worth getting anymore. Spinach and shroud tea leaves are about the only other thing that will sell, and they won't sell fast.

The money in botany is in HQ dzemal tomatoes and noble grapes currently, various seeds, crawler coons and Spruce logs.

Just got my Botanist up to 408 gathering/392 perception with fc buff. Now, i can see what we can gather, but i'm now wondering why i bothered, is any of this stuff actually worth anything? xD

Scarlet Sap is selling for about 18k a piece for HQ on Brynhildr. Also ofc, Dzemael Tomatoes will always sell. You can always gather clusters too.

I can't imagine how it's selling for that. The end result of the synths it's used in are furniture, augmentations and primal weapons. Every possible use for them has no HQ possible or is a glamour item.
