Thank you for saying what I had a hard time saying.Everyone understands that they need to develop for both platforms. What we are scratching our heads about is why in the world did they not have a decent keyboard interface ready to go from the start after 5+ years of development, especially considering that they planned to launch on PC first.
And a lot of "PC players" need to realize it's a new generation and a lot of people like Gamepad controls for their PC games as well, so it's actually good that a game is built with both in mind.
We already know optimizations will happen.
Let me quote this AGAIN since you didn't read it:
Everyone understands that they need to develop for both platforms. What we are scratching our heads about is why in the world did they not have a decent keyboard interface ready to go from the start after 5+ years of development, especially considering that they planned to launch on PC first.
The problem is the Server-Side UI. Since the UI resides on the servers (instead of your hard drive), PC's are forced to use the PS3/Controller favored UI (instead of offering a separate PC/Keyboard favored version). The Server-Side UI also is the reason it so unresponsive and laggy, even on a controller (more so in some ways) and is also why there is limited customization available,
The whole reason for this setup is the infamous "Third Party Tools" policy from SE. Most other games call them Mods and not only allow them but some even encourage them. The vast majority of Mods are UI enhancements and many improve their respective games dramatically. "Botting" Mods usually get squashed pretty quickly with an easy update and "other" mods that allow you to do things never intended for you to be able to do, usually crash your system, corrupt your files, and cause a seizure when you have to Reformat, Reinstall and Re-update everything. (karma)
I understand SE got a lot of grief over Botters and RMT's in FFXI (though most of it was hysteria over losing NM claims...heck, I got accused of being a bot many times), but it seems ironic to me that in a game where "..you can choose your own playstyle..." , you are forced to play "their way".
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
And a lot of "PC players" need to realize it's a new generation and a lot of people like Gamepad controls for their PC games as well, so it's actually good that a game is built with both in mind.

Not even consoles use gamepads anymore (every console is moving out of gamepads and into motion controls), which "new generation" are you referring to exactly? Even PCs are trying to move in the direction of motion controls (See: Razer Hydra).
Please SE just give us options!!
if the game pad people want to use controller fine. but dont force us to use it.
options options!!! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sun2SCeSgv...00/RIFT+UI.png

Full customization of key mapping, including the action bar, needs to be a priority. Game pad buttons should also be capable of being mapped to whatever we want.
Just make a restore default option in the config if we totally mess things up.
One issue I've noticed when I was soloing a battle leve yesterday is
After killing the first leve mob, I pressed TAB to target the second one in the same mob group. It happened that a mob from another leve mob group stood in the middle, as I tabbed through it it was targeted first ad hence the AUTO ATTACK started, which wasn't intended. Then I had two groups of mobs attacking me at the same time >_>' which I couldn't handle, so I ran away. Even if I could, I wouldn't kill them at the same time as the other group would yield no SP.
Sometimes there is a need to press ENTER to initiate auto attack, sometimes there isn't. Maybe only the first mob we need to press ENTER?
I usually use the mouse along the keyboard and I double click the target. That works as well. Yet my PUG, had some time standing by, but the mobs did too >.>
I don't think they will bring back such action. You know, they removed the "spam button 1" problem. So if they add the action, "Auto attack on/off" and replace it with e.g. "Light strike" it's like before; players will spam the 1 attack.
Unless with the new timers, spamming is impossible.
I wanted to make another post about this, but yours is relevant. So maybe add some update ? Thanks
If I am a CON or TAN, why do I have still to press ENTER to spell and confirm my area of effect? Isn't my target already engaged with Auto-Attack?
I was thinking this new patch would bring such fix. Instead it's the like before with Disciplines of Magic, when sometimes they spam their phantom-spirit dart.
Funny how despite their best efforts, botting still runs rampant.
