Help with Guardian Deity

Hi there,

I am looking for some lore perspective on my guardian deity choice for a new character. Silly little things matter a lot to me, OCD or whatever.

I am mostly a crafter on my current main so obviously Byregot springs immediately to mind. However, I want to main a Monk and so I am torn between that and Rhalgr, who is the patron of Ala Mhigo -- is that where the Monks come from, or was it a place where lots of "classes" could have come from.

Do Monks have a particulary strong connection to Rhalgr. I hate 50-50s so perspective can help sway me.

Traditionally, yes the Job did have a connection to Rhalgr. The MNK Job originated lore-wise in Ala Mhigo, where Rhalgr was the city's historical Guardian Deity (like how Gridania has Nophica etc). Accordingly, the MNKs were organized as a quasi-religious order known as the Fists of Rhalgr, until the last King of Ala Mhigo, the 'King of Ruin' Theodoric, purged the MNKs and effectively wiped the entire order out, leaving only a couple to keep the Job from going extinct.

Having said that though, your Guardian Deity is not really connected to your choice of class/Job - it's only real gameplay element is that it determines your elemental alignment slightly (Rhalgr, being lightning aspected for instance, would give you slightly better defense against lightning attacks, while increasing damage slightly from water elemental attacks), but the difference has little impact in reality.

Your best bet is to choose a Guardian that has a connection to your chosen race/clan -a Highlander hyur for instance is more likely to be a follower of Rhalgr for the reasons I mentioned above, given how Ala Mhigo is their ancestral home. But you're free to choose another deity and craft your backstory around it accordingly, half the fun of role-playing after all.

I just chose the Deity which I thought correlated with Earth Zodiac signs. I chose Nophica because it was similar to Virgo
