extreme conflict of interest question

All right so I have a question. a few months ago I brought a friend into the game and i am still currently paying for said friends account. and well after a few moments of differences in opinion. said friend drops guild and bails out to another.. im so peeved by this shady act that im tempted just to have the account terminated. but i want to know what others may do in my shoes if possible. so my question would you like me be thinking of canceling the account?

So they don't agree with the guild position/decisions/style, they change to a different guild, and you think this is a bad thing? Simply being your friend doesn't mean they have to agree with everything you do, or be in the same guild.

I mean, you're paying for their account, so what you do with that is your choice, but it doesn't sound like they actually did anything wrong, so to cancel it for the reason above would be fairly rude.

Maybe there is more to it? If OP's friend is being an asshat, they can pay their own way he shouldn't feel obligated to keep the sub going.

Ehh, if the point was to have someone to play with, and you can still play with your friend even if they're in another FC, then there isn't really a problem. If you're not getting anything out of this aside from fewer dollars in your pocket every month, just cancel the extra account - it's not like people don't legitimately need to save money. It's 100% something I'd bring up with the friend in question first, though.

If I was paying for a friend and he was still obviously my friend, I don't think him leaving my guild or playing the game how he wants would make me terminate his account; that's just really controlling in my opinion.

Now if a huge fight happened and you guys aren't friends anymore, then it may be time to let him pay for himself.

I tried to leave it discreet as possible do to the difference between me and said friend went from Game to FB to everything else rather quickly last night when friend took off.

There are details missing here, but as a layman I would say ethically your friend is entitled to ownership of the account to use and subscribe with, as it was bought for them, but they are not entitled to your continued subscription payment.

I assume you mean 'terminate the account' as in 'cancel the subscription' here, and not 'get my friend banned' or something equally extreme.

So it's really your account that you are letting your friend play on. I'd say just do what you want with it since it is technically yours. If you guys are still friends then you might want to work something out with him before just taking the account away.

From a strict policy perspective neither of you should be playing the game at all because account sharing is a violation of TOS. But hell, who cares, this happens all the time.

From an ethics perspective I just wouldn't pay for his account any more, something you are definitely under no obligation to do. Unless there's stuff you intended to use later on it that he took away from you, wholly terminating access to the account by e.g. locking it away or getting it banned strikes me as analagous to trying to take someone's Christmas gift away from them because they wouldn't go to your birthday party.

Again, context and details are key. If there are characters or items you voiced intent to use at a later date that changes things. If he robbed your FC bank that changes things. Etc, etc.
