Hmm... I like the idea that the DF is a way to experience the story content of the game without having to gather a FC is a good aspect of the game. I would say that things Extremes and perhaps more-raid style content should perhaps be left more to those who actually wish to seek out the challenge, rather then experience the content.
Eh, I had just come out of some excruciatingly close Thornmarch Extremes. I was frustrated. They shouldn't make the extremes easier. I should just stop trying to get clears in DF. Maybe I should re-evaluate how I spend my time in the game instead.

I think the problem is some fight that has more than 2 or 3 phases, like Titan, Turn 4 and 5 of the first Coils.
casual players and first timers may learned about the fights after 2-3 wipes and be able to clear it eventually. and experienced players can explain them about the mechanics. but if it's a fight that has more than 3 phases, it almost impossible to explain everything and defeat it in 3-4 attempts. telling casuals to go watch a video on youtube is not gonna help because they're casuals. why do they have to do research just to play games? they'll just give up.
I would like all the stores this Christmas to give me whatever their Black Friday door-buster prize is, even if I show up a few days later. I mean I buy stuff from them just like everyone else so I should get the same things those people who camped out on a hard sidewalk for two days in the freezing cold got. Sure they put forth some effort, but hey, they got to have it first and feel special, so now it's my turn, but that standing in line stuff and getting to the store early sounds like it requires effort.
Sounds like I want the same thing other people got, without putting forth the same effort doesn't it? Guess what, SE already allows you to do that. If The above situation were FFXIV, you'd be able to get the door-buster all the way until next Christmas when the previous year's prize was old news. And what I take away when I read a thread like this is the equivalent of asking for that, plus being able to have the prize delivered to your house as long as you pay for shipping, kinda like a subscription fee.
I'm all for making older content easier, but there has to be a limit.
For most content the echo buff is kinda useless and can even create more problems by skipping phases.
I think giving players more time to dodge certain attacks (and yes, lag exists) would help more than the echo buff.
Because what kills people are things like plumes, landslide, twister, eruption, divebombs...
I DFed Thornmarch extreme with no problem.
The PROBLEM here is something even the most hard core static groups mentioned.
The boss battles have FAR too many insta kill mechanics and super damage (normally insta kill) hits. Instead of a fight, it becomes a sort of memory reaction game, that is a bit more stressful than fun. If anyone of your team dies, it generally kills the whole team. This is why DF fails and only preformed groups have any real chance. A bunch of random people and new players won't be in sync to take on these heavy hitters. Once a healer or tank dies, it's game over most of the time. This style of bosses is incredibly troubling and problematic for the style of gameplay.
So the problem is not with how DF is, it's with how boss fights are structured. The player base merely adjusted to this issue by relying on preformed parties for a much higher % of serious attempts instead.
Then don't attempt them when your lagging.
You always lag you say? Then your playing the wrong game.
No one picks up...... Bioshock for PC (1st thing I could think of... I don't buy single player games often) pops it into their windows 98 and says "3 FPS......2K Games I DEMAND YOU MAKE THE GAME EASIER SO I CAN PLAY ON MY 3 FPS MACHINE!!"
You know what they do? What any rational person should. "Welp looks like my computer isn't good enough to run this time to play something else"
If FFXIV lags so badly at all times that you can't reliably handle "boss is casting X.. I should move". You need to play something your setup can handle.
