Simplicity over complexity, time to change.

We know the game has been very limited and simple since the start, Yoshi told us it's because this game is being played by a large number of people that is new to MMORPGs, but the game is almost a year old, and the easy content is already there.

It's time to introduce the hybrid role Yoshi mentioned once, specialized stats, dangerous open world, more and better character personalization, horizontal gear progression(keeping the ilvl system, some players seem to like it)...

The soft and slow start is already there, the safe part of the world is already there, the convenience systems like teleport and duty finder are there as well.

It's time to start building the game you promised, it's time to cater to the experienced players. The expansion has been planned for a long time now, we don't know how it will be, but i'm not expecting a big change, this change should come with the updates that will come after the expansion, culminating it with the next one, 4.0.

Believe or not a part of the player-base is actually playing a waiting game, they wait for the game to get better, some endure it and keep waiting, others get tired and leave, you have hooked half of the player base, so start hooking the rest, get our money and make a game we can call home.
    ______________________________________________________________________

Now please, use this thread to list things you would like to see implemented after or with the expansion, don't post to say "i don't like it", if you don't like the idea of another poster, just leave a comment trying to turn said idea into one of your liking instead of rejecting it, also try to post every idea on different posts so ppl can like them individually.

Hope we can leave some valuable feedback for the dev team.

I would also like to see some complexity come back, but realistically we won't see it until the expansion. However, if they do not add the proper complexity we need in this game I will most likely start to lose interest.

And they will, believe me, and they will be no more heartbroken to leave than you were they are gone. In time populations will dwindle, server merges will occur, and 14 will find a comfortable spot next to 11... existing. Square made an interesting move with 14.2. They took one of the longest running, deep, complex, fascinating worlds gaming has ever known and slapped it on the front of a lunchbox.

They have marketed it successfully to an entire generation of silver spoon gamers that might have never tried a FF game before this one. I just wonder what they believe will be the result of all the long term fans that they have essentially turned their back on with this one. Will they be inclined to purchase another Square title? No one really knows I suppose but no one can deny that Square did make a conscious decision to turn their backs on their dedicated fan base in favor of a new one and whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant. They will voice it, their feelings will be valid, and they will leave. Question will always be does Square care. Time will tell.

I once thought FF immune to this, but it looks as though 'Final Fantasy' will follow in the footsteps of every great AAA franchise that sacrificed artistry and vision on the altar of marketing, gimmicks, and "summer blockbuster popularity". (I'm looking at YOU, Resident Evil, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Sonic, Metroid, God of War, etc, etc... )

SE has already shown that they are appallingly dense when it comes to this. Upon discovering that 'Bravely Default' has become a surprise international hit, CEO Yosuke Matsuda exclaimed:
“[...] we weren’t able to see this clearly up until now, but fans of JRPGs are really spread around the world,”
Which is good to hear, but should also cause anyone with even a shred of historical knowledge to immediately:

Maybe we'll see a Bravely Default MMO someday... That'd be nice.

    /sigh

Something my friends and I have dubbed "The Elder Franchise Syndrome" Even with the greatest games, the wheel can only be re-invented so many time and ideas can and do get exhausted.

Hmm, I don't think Yoshi ever promised a lot of the stuff that you're asking for.

That's not to say that the game can't be improved, but I don't want complexity being added just for the sake of complexity, and I certainly don't want a "dangerous open-world" because what that really means is zones where you just run away from everything. I didn't like those in FFXI and I wouldn't like them here. Being able to actually kill everything in the open-world is a hell of a lot more fun to me than having to MGS everything.

He did simplicity for the sake of simplicity in many areas of ARR, though.

    Which isn't the same thing.

Lets look back at the "complexity" of FFXI:

    - Did FFXI have BiS? Depends on your definition of BiS, because what FFXI had plenty of was "macro this piece of gear in when you use this ability/magic". Yes we had more stats, but in the end these did not lead to the personalization people spout about, it just led to equip swaps macros with more lines. Complexity for the sake of complexity.

    - Were the battles of FFXI complex because they had random elements? Not by a longshot.

    - Would FFXIV be a better game if we had specific spells to cure specific status effects like we did in FFXI? Oh, the game would be more "complex", surely, but better? No, not really, because again, it was just complexity for the sake of complexity.

And finally lets look at some of the "complexity" that they added in recent updates:

    - chocobo feed being tied to gardening.
    - magicked brooms.
    - desynthesis cap.

Oh yeah, those were all popular.
