There is a good blog - http://www.eldergame.com where industry insiders describes a lot of what's going on with MMO. And there were a very good explanation of WoW choices, why they are positive for general game perception. You can just roll back to somewhere into 2009 to find them.

You know, games becomes old, and 7 years is already a lot to get tired from particular MMO. WoW doesn't had very good graphics from the start and now it's just look archaic, and no flashy effects help it. Like - WoW? Again? No, thanks.
Warlords of Draenor expansion coming out is actually completely revamping the graphics to be closer to modern standard graphics and this expansion is being developed by those who did the Burning Crusade expansion. Also, WoW hit it's peak numbers between WoTLK and Cataclysm, and started dying down around the end of Cataclysm. Blizzard made a lot of questionable choices in Mists of Pandira and I think they realize that it hasn't been working well in their favor. Warlords of Draenor I believe is the attempt to get a lot of their hard core back. In all fairness to Blizzard though, even at their lowest, they are still pulling numbers that other MMO developers can only dream of having.

...You do realize...in 5-7 years for XI:

    XI Vanilla = 2002
    XI Zilart (Expansion 1) = 2003
XI Chains of Promathia (Expansion 2) = 2004
XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan (Expansion 3) = 2006
XI Wings of the Goddess (Expansion 4) = 2007
XI Visions of Abyssea (game change) = 2009.

How did XI fall "by themselves"? It took years before XI starting falling off.

And Minecraft has sold 54 million.

GTA and Minecraft are both sandbox games which allow the players to craft their own adventures in large and cohesive worlds.

Are you saying FFXIV should ditch the theme-park template and instead adopt a more sandbox approach?

If so, thanks for making my point.

These threads always boil down to "I want this to be FF11"

This game is just fine. It plays a little more like wow, probably to bring in the some of the 3-4 mil subs they have lost over the last few years. It's beautiful, has a good story, and has lots to do.

FF11 was a good game in its hay day, but 14 has done a good job implementing lesson learned from it.

It's like you want to intentionally make game harder for everyone because you are bored and too lazy to actually do something, so you want game do it for you.
I have zero interest in instanced and fully scripted content, and as a casual-average player, i don't have time for statics, that's all.

All the negative and useless comments i'm seeing have one thing in common, FFXI and FFXIV 1.x hate, as i have already said several times, this is a feedback thread, i want it to last and be helpful, and because of this, hateful posts like yours are not welcome here, post feedback or leave please, if you want to stay and discuss leave personal attacks and hate at the door.

    I played WOW for 6.5 years,player eq for 2 month,UO for 2 yrs
liked UO the most, EQ the second, had a memorable adventure in these games.

played WOW for the longest time but I hate it at the end.
vanilla WOW was great, after that I slowly realized WOW was just using a gear treadmill to take my money.
no more adventure, players don't help each others and blame each others because they wiped.

Then I tried XIV1.0, I was surprised,it had the charm, the sense of adventure.
it's the game that I've waited for a decade,I was so regretted & asked myself why I picked WOW not FFXI?
Yes 1.0 UI & copy pasted maps were suck.1.0 wasn't that bad, it was just unfinished
I kept playing it, after patches it became better and better.
The game required player interaction, community was great,it was a real MMO.

    As you can see 99% 1.23/XIV players love XI/1.23 & don't like ARR/WOW clone.
because XI/1.23 had some magic in them

Yoshi chose an easy route,he made another wow clone,a gear treadmill dungeon co-op game,
because it's much eaiser to design,
but I think it won't last for more than two years, just look at those "modern" WOW clones on the market.

New patches won't save ARR,because the game is heading to a wrong direction,it is going downhill.
and this time, I think Yoshi may really ruin the Final Fantasy brand.
I mean, ask a kid "Do you know what is Final Fantasy", "Ah,I know,an easy & simple MMO?"
The brand doen't mean "the best of the best" , it isn't a memorable game title, anymore.

I like you! My sentiments as well. Agree wholeheartedly about UO.

On the teleport thing. What makes the game less immersive imo, Is the haphazard map design. Who would know how to get anywhere in this game much less walk from one end to the other without some kind of continuous map? Don't blame teleporting.

On a side note whoever said peeps didnt complain back then: They did, forums just weren't as populated.

Oh, but that's where you're wrong! I played FFXI for years and loved it until I finally burned out. And that's why I don't want FFXIV to be another FFXI.

I love it how you say things like "you don't understand why things were as they were". I do. They were like that to waste our time. Because teleports don't need to be removed from FFXIV for us to go out and immerse ourselves in it's world.

And that's the big problem with most of the claims for bringing back the stuff in FFXI, they're just stuff designed to waste our time, and that's why they're outdated because developers understood that what players want to do is to actually play a game, not waste a lot of time between the moments when they're actually playing.
