That's a perfect example...of the black dye being faded. There is gear out there that starts off black, and when you dye it it ends up looking like your pic, lighter than it was. Those saying we have no 'real' blacks, could you provide some examples of what you mean? When I dye gear like Militia Tights or the boots Shioban has on display black, I am very satisfied with the result. Anything more black and it would look like somebody has used MS Paint to colour over the shoes; not a look I'm fond of. I've agreed with the shading issue in numerous posts when it comes to other colours or dyed gear losing it's gleam, but this seems like making an issue out of nothing imo. Soot Black looks a realistic black on everything I've tried dying.
Throw in a random non-leather example (as Shioban provided one):
Black Hempen Top, black Spring Skirt. Seems black to me?

How about at least some dyes that better match colors found in existing gear?
It may be hard to see in this image, but it is noticable in the environment lighting how different the blacks are between the soot black dyed spring skirt and the naturally black yukata top. Both are of a similar material texture. There are no dyes that match the red or blue yukata either, and the snow white dye does not match the yukata white.
Funnily enough I bet people would complain if SE released armor with zero detail on them.

I think a number of armors could handle a pure black well enough, I just imagine that there would also be a handful that would look quite wrong if anything else.. with a 100% black. Not "imo" wrong, but graphically wrong.
If you can't see the difference you should consult an oculist ;p
If SE cant make a true black dye, they should at least allow us to dye every single piece of gear, that way we can fit our glamour better.
