Yeah if you're a caster or healer, just use sprint every time you get vines (assuming it's up).
Learn it the non-LoS way. Coil 6 Savage has 360° Devour afaik, so better you learn it right off the bat to do it the "correct" way. LoS is for bad healers :P /troll

I have been clearing this weekly with my group using briars. The scholar is pretty busy buffing for spit but I'm doing no healing during this mechanic except on the person dodging devour so healing is never an issue. If I get targeted the scholar makes sure to heal me.
We have our MT turn rafflesia so her back is to briars. When crown goes out everyone stacks on the MT while devour person runs straight back. As spit is casting the MT moves to the other side of rafflesia, turning her, so the raid can stay where they are. Since old briars are now in front of rafflesia there is no need to turn her around as the new briars will spawn to the sides and behind her. (We just rotate her slightly so her back is to briars again.)
My experience with pugging fill-ins doing LOS I see them get hit more with devour. And when they give up LOS and just run to briars they dodge it. In my own attempts with LOS pug groups I find it more difficult to break chains when the crown person is tethered, which makes healing more intense.
Maybe LOS is more pug friendly overall due to the emphasis on positioning with briars but I don't see why a static couldn't learn briars just as quickly to get a clear.
