Ferne is kind of awesome like that, yeah. Though it bears mentioning this is a "bounty" mob that appears only in certain Northern Thanalan levequests, so it's pretty much an easter egg. I have yet to see any others myself, though who knows, perhaps when expansion hits we'll be trying out the new leves only to stumble on the message:

"Wanted target Bayohne found! Slay the target and collect the bounty!"

I wonder if Ferne borrowed the name from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. One line is, "To ferne halwes, kowethe in sondry londes" where 'ferne halwes' means 'distant shrines.'

Ah OK. Sorry I only played 1.0 for 2 weeks before quitting (got boring and decided to revisit LotRO instead) so I am unaware of anything from the 1.0 forums.
