Add skill bar option for PS3/4

Not sure if this is the correct section...but...

As a player jumping from a PC to PS3, I can't help but feel extremely daunted and confused by the setup of a PS3 controller and its limited keybind use and requirements of toggling/holding.

I was bit surprised that (since the PS3 is able to support both mouse and keyboard), while the PC version supports gamepad (and therefore, the cross bar for it), but there is no option to toggle skill bars for the PS3 (and I'm going to assume PS4) version.

There's still a work around for it by keybinding button inputs from the PS3 controller, but in the end it's still less keybindings for me to utilize without requiring toggle buttons (separate ones at that, since I can't figure out how to map both L2/R2 toggles to the same key)

Greetings. I have access to all platforms at this time so I can give you some info. The PS3 has very limited functional items such as not having the hotbar option or being able to split your chat window. The PS4 version I can tell you is exactly the same as the PC version. You can have your cross hotbar and have all eight vertical and horizontal hotbars that everybody has come to know and love to the point of being able to split the window. Now something I just had to check... but it seems the toggle is there in the character config just like the PC. So you can actually turn off the cross hotbar completely and play using only the mouse and keyboard like a PC user.

I am assuming that your saying its annoying going from one to another cross hotbar in a pinch. One thing I have done is changed the way the cross hotbar works in and out of combat. I do this by having the option under System >> Character Configuration >> Hotbar Settings >> Cross >> Enable customization for when weapon is drawn. Here for me I usually have hotbar 2 and 3 selected. This does two things. First, no matter what hot bar your in, the moment you pull your weapon out the hot bar will change to number 2. (Since its the first one on selected) Hotbar number 2 is my main attack setup bar since 1 always fills up whenever I acquire a new skill. (Wish I could turn that feature off) At this point if I hit R1 it will switch to hotbar 3. If I hit it again it will go back to 2 until I put my weapon away. So as long as the weapon is out (i.e. combat mode) you will only switch between those two. Its a much faster way of switching rather than holding R1.

I would love for them to implement this option for the PS3 version as well. Is there some sort of hardware limitation that they can't? Otherwise it just seems really weird to completely leave that out for the PS3.

Its a pletoria iof things. With the cross bar, I only ever see 16 different skills, with only 8 being accessible at one time; makes it hard to keep track of CDs. Another problem is not being able to tab target with cross active.

The way I see your response, it toggles between 2 bars depending on if you have your weapon out or not. What I'm trying to look for is being able use my skills without having to toggle/highlight my cross bar, in a sense so I have access to 16 skills at once rather than 8 (or at least have my other set of 8 skills be toggled to an alternate keybinding, such as alt+1)

I believe its a hardware issue since SE normal keeps things the same on both sides. Thats why on the PC side you notice your menu buttons when from a lot to seven icons. That is because they matched it to the Start Button menu on the console version. (I actually use the Start Menu on PC. ^_^) The original set up was from XIV 1.0 and there was no PS version back then.

I can understand the fact your limited on what you can see in terms of CDs. There's not much I am afraid that can be done at this point. My option was to buy a PS4 and have the same set up as PC. I just wish I could read the file for HUD and settings options from PC on the PS. The 2 bar toggle is your only option really. Its just tap, look, tap and continue. That's why I suggested that options because as you know, currently you have to hold R1 then bring up the correct bar. That just takes too long.

And your target issue. I am not sure I understand. Are you saying your having problems targeting enemies? Usually as soon as I hit the X button it will target the nearest NPC to me from there I can use left or right on the D-pad to get to the right creature. There is also L1+Up or Down to cycle through your enemies list.

Toggling inbetween targets during combat has always been a struggle for me. D-pad randomly cycles between allies and enemies, I have to press X after cycling to target my abilities on the selected target. It's just a very confusing jump to make from the PC.

Ok I think I know whats wrong here. Under Character Configuration >> Control Settings >> Filters >> Enable target cycling. You want under the option "While weapon is drawn" to have All Enemies, Aggroing Enemies and Duty Specific Enemies checked. This will eliminate the left - right unwanted targeting. Just remember that up - down will always be for your party list. I would also use the Filter Customization under that and set what you like. For me its Triangle = ALL, Circle = Enemies, Square = Friends, X = Party Members. You can switch these on the fly if needed but I don't normally.

This is what I do. I have a filter for enemies only, one for party members only, one for "all" (since it won't let me target pets otherwise) and another one for friends that I use when I am in alliance (it basically targets everything but enemies).
I think it's just an issue of getting used to it. I have only played PS3: it was confusing at first, but once you use it for a while, switching between hotbars and stuff becomes natural.

Appreciate all the inputs. I found the cross merge option (accessing one half of a cross bar by holding down both shoulder buttons) to be very helpful in the transition. Just issues with map awareness cause of the camera controls and using ground targetted AoEs.
