I'm gonna note that #1 was changed drastically in patch 2.1. Square realised that they really were overburdening players' wallets, so the "cost of living" gil costs were reduced drastically (repairs, teleports, etc.) while gil income has been constantly increasing (daily duty roulettes & adventurer-in-need bonuses, gil drops from regular enemies, challenge log objectives added, retainer ventures bringing back stuff to sell), etc. - generally it's not that hard to rack up gil anymore.

The only thing I might note is PvP - it does indeed have PvP now, however, only Frontlines (24v24v24) is really that popular; it's also not exactly very serious or competitive or balanced but it is a lot of fun and people take it relatively lightly, plus it gives currencies relevant to players for PvE gear so yeah.
