Are you just targeting it and running up to it with your weapon drawn? If so, that's not enough to initiate the attack. Observe the target icon on the mob when you start your approach. Is it a circle icon? Or is it three daggers pointed inwardly at the mob? You're not actually "engaged" unless you see the three daggers. Otherwise, you're just standing around a mob Only when those daggers are present will you begin auto attack.

The reason why you AA after using a skill is because using a skill automatically engages you with the mob. At least it should. It has been that way in my experience. Generally, the way to engage a mob is to draw your weapon, target it, and then hit your confirm button on your joypad or the enter button on your keyboard from what I can imagine. The problem is there's not much much of a audio or visual cue other than the silent switching of the cursor icon. It's not very noticeable, while drawing out your weapon makes you feel like you're engaged to fight. Try hitting the confirm button or enter key until you start attacking.

    This is correct.

And the system needs major tweaks. It's so completely counter-intuitive I can't imagine anyone coming into this game brand spanking new and making ANY sense of it.

Target Monster -> Hit Engage(attack) Button -> Start attacking monster - > Monster dies -> Battle is over

That's how simple it is in other games, that's how simple it was in FFXI, and that's how simple it should be here. Of couse there is some argument for automatically targeting the next nearby or engaged mob, but that was handled elegantly in FFXI as well.

They just need to stop worrying about the FFXI team teasing them for making a clone and just do the things that work.

if what you said is true then then I do attack the AA should kick on. It dosent. if I hit the mob one time with my light stab or whatever its called tghen the mob stands there and attacks me over and over then I am assuming that at some point in time in the next 30 seconds while light stab refreshes I should AA my TP should go up and my other attacks should work.

    It dosent.

If I play at home on my desktop it does, about 9 out of 10 times. But my laptop or work pc will only AA aybe 1 in 7 fight wilk AA. The rest I just stand there after I start the fight and the mobs beat on me.

I think its a slow client issue where my gimp 2mb dsl at work is having trouble and the AA is a client side process and the client isnt sending the attack so the mob gets to kill me while I cant touch him.

Maybe its just another bad thing about a game full of crappy gameplay and interface. I have never had this kind of issue before on any other game I have ever played

use a weapon with less delay. Use your skills AFTER the auto attack, otherwise, it resets the delay counter.

Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing
