Invisible Shields?

Heya! I know this is a silly suggestion considering there are a few skills in a Paladin's repertoire that use shields, but that being said, there are a bunch of folks out there that, when they glamour, want to use a sword's appearance, but hate the fact that they have to use a shield as well.

There are a bunch of NPCs, such as Odin and Acheron/Phlegethon who use swords, but don't use shields.

I'm not really asking for me personally, since I play a WAR, but I have a friend in my Free Company who RPs as a traditional Pirate-type character and loves using a sword (as a Gladiator or Paladin, depending on difficulty level of content), but feels that the shield seriously gets in the way of his vision of what his character should look like.

Any chance of addressing this? Thanks!

There are a few real small bucklers in the game your friend could use in the mean time. Doesn't remove the shield altogether, but minimizes it.

That said, I do think the concept of an invisible shield is silly! :P

You can't play PLD with no shield very well as besides losing the stats (the shield is what balances sword stats with 2-handed weps) you lose access to Shield Bash, SHield Lob, Shield Swipe and of course the ability to block... As for an invisible shield...how would you suggest they handle the animations for the abilities I listed? Your character is going to look very silly throwing "nothing" at the monster or smashing it in the face with your forearm. PLD is a Knight not a Fencer.

Well you -could- in -theory- craft some animations for a "shieldless" paladin. Lob could be throwing a rock (sling perhaps?), Bash would be a heavy gut punch delivered with the off-hand, Swipe would be a backhand... as for blocking, an armored gauntlet if shaped right can do wonders against enemy blades. Or... hell, could just throw in shirahadori somewhere.

... I guess what I'm really saying is "want a shieldless paladin? Wait on Yoshida and the gang to code up a samurai class/job. Please look forward to it! "

Just give us "empty" glamours.

For offhand and armor alike. I hate always having to wear atleast something. If i want to do dungeons without pants but still enjoy the stats from them, it should let me. Realistically for other people, hands or body. Still, i have no idea why this didnt come standard with the glamour system.

Maybe they could add armlet shields as vanity.

He is already looking silly by throwing multiple shield when he is wearing only one (unless you're thinking of it as a boomerang, but it should then not working with square shield).

My PLD is wearing leather armor (the Snow's one) and a jack-o-lantern heads, it does not make him feel a Knight maybe a Dark one because of the head.

And in the case of the Pirate-RP-Friend: Perhaps a Swashbuckler Job is on the way, you never know..
