Why such illogical choices for crafting?

    Hi

I'm just new to the game, so I'm using a lot of websites to help me through the game. Though I have a question to ask.

I'm trying to make a Bronze Chainmail. I have no problem that you need a lot of materials, but why are there some things so hard to get through crafting?

I.e.: For Bronze Chainmail I would need 5 Armorcrafting. One of the materials, a Bronze Wire (to make the Bronze Rings and so on), you would need 12 Armorcrafting. Why is this? This makes no sense to me and surely puts a block on my quest to get better gear.

Will they change this? Why is this? Same with other stuff, like when you want to make a Botanist's offhand, but you need herbs in order to make it. Makes no sense whatsoever. Can anyone answer?

Fret not, most of this is changing in the near future.

The original idea, I suspect, was to try to create a constant economic need between people of different occupations and people of the same occupation but different levels. One of the many concepts in the game that wasn't an outright terrible idea on paper, but just doesn't translate well into real world mmo gameplay.

I have been trying to level my GoldSmithing (so that I can repair my own jewelery) but my 2 biggest beefs are thus:

    1) We need some kind of "Bulk-Crafting" Mechanism, ie., I crafted over 100 Copper Rings 1 at a time! The process is cumbersome and annoying and needs to be streamlined.

    2) Where are the Recipes? Where are the NPC's who give you recipes? I should not have to go to a 3rd-Party website to learn how to Craft a Daily Guild Item or any item for that matter. Yes I know some recipes are "learned" from certain Leves and Quests but they are few and far between. Trial & Error just doesn't cut it. Give me an ingame method to learn Recipes, preferably from Guild NPC's.

No, we don't need an auto-crafter.

Hence the need for a community. One person gets 8 recipes. 10 people gets 80 recipes. Everyone shares, everyone happy...theoretically of course. Well, we always end up on 3rd-party database sites anyway regardless of MMO, even those that give you all the recipes in-game.

What we need is a "recipe book" to record all the recipes we learned from leves and successfully synthed.

There are a few recipes which are pretty bad as to their requirements

now i can understand the need for a rank 40 material from ANOTHER craft to make something
but when the recipe is lets say rank 20, and the material in it is rank 30-40 within its own craft, thats what i call a bit lobsided

rank 5 recipe rank 12 material isnt bad at all, you can probly easily make the rank 12 material so it shouldnt be an issue, its the higher stuff that becomes an issue(there arent alot of them but there are a few)

I personally think that a part of this was the disconnect between the art department and the coders. So far, SE has stuck quite religiously to the concept of WYSIWYG. That is, every single component used in a recipe is reflected in the final item. So, given the final item as created by the art department, suitable in-game materials (of the appropriate color) must be found to make up the recipe itself.

Parts of this system are admirable : if you see another player or NPC in-game wearing an item, close examination of the item will actually tell you what the recipe is to make the item (e.g. see NPC in Miner's guild with Dodotail Pickaxe, note the auburn canvas grip, add auburn canvas to upgrade recipe to make Dodotail Pickaxe).

Unfortunately, it also does lead to some extremely out of balance recipes. My favorite is the White Skillet. This rank 17 CUL main hand tool requires white enamel, because the inner surface of the frypan is white. It looks pretty. The only problem? White enamel is a rank45+ alchemist synthesis. To make matters even more fun, white enamel is made from white stainsand, and white stainsand can only be quarried from grade 5 mining quarries (off hand tool). In particular, there is only ONE such quarry in the game that drops white stainsand -- and it is guarded by aggressive rank45+ enemies. I really all seems like a lot of work to go to just for a rank 17 frying pan.

So, there are some good parts and bad parts. As noted above, 1.19 is supposed to see a lot of changed in recipes : something I look forward to with both anticipation and apprehension.

Trial and Error used to be fun for player economy. Being one of the only three person who know how to make X or Y and you could charge hefty amount of money. That was how some people have 100m gil and some people have 1m gil in the beginning.

Actually, the system is far more like real world economy then ive yet to see in any other mmo.
The problem is rather that it relies on those higher materials being available on the market.

Which just wont be the case if there happens to be noone that makes it.
Something like that doesnt happen irl because we got such a high level of server (lol) overpopulation.
