It could have worked if there hadn't been a TP in the first place, but with the entire community used to teleporting here and there now, removing it would cause a riot.
I'm not asking to remove it completely, just that there should be a limit to where we can teleport or how much. Right now there is no choice in the game, and I think choices with consequences is great in video games.
I mean really, once you hit 50 you can do pretty much all the main content without leaving the city through duty finder.

I support this thread. And I like Rokien's small talk style intro he uses every single time xD
I'm still surprised this isn't the way they were set up. I still keep expecting Aetherytes to be like long distance versions of the smaller Aethernet Shards. As it is, once we've attuned to an Aetheryte, it becomes useless as there's nothing else we can do with it.
This would make sense if we were actually entering the dungeon at that point. But traveling there just to put your name on a list, if you're then going to enter from the other side of the world anyway half an hour later doesn't make a lot of sense.2nd: remove distance join from duty-finder. You are in the Sahagin Stronghold fishing and think you would want to do a round CT? Fine. First ride to Aleport, click on the Aetheryte, teleport to Mor Dhonna, ride to the Crystal Tower and click on the portal to join the queue.
I'd think over-use of teleport would make that problem worse, not better. The discontinuity just makes it more confusing to figure out where you are.
is irrelevant as nobody has suggested removing it. The only things that have been suggested involve adding occasions when somebody might not use it. It could have a cooldown, a real cost, be available from just certain places, etc. None of those remove it from the game. You could still teleport when you actually want to. But there could be a lot of times when you don't actually need to teleport at all, and could go overland. You may find out that the game is a lot more involving if teleport is available but not the automatic first choice of how to get absolutely anywhere.
Only if all those "many times before" weren't eliminated by teleporting being too easy.
200% agree. All the instant teleports has made what could possibly be one of the largest MMO worlds out at this time feel no larger than Disneyland. But hey, that's what they wanted right? A super easy no fuss amusement part, "Final Fantasyland"!
As others have mentioned, the problem now is it is too late to change it. Yoshi handed all the kiddies a lollipop and now if he tries to take it away they all cry and he looks like a bad guy. So we are stuck with it. I have no idea how large Vana'diel was at launch compared to Eorzea but right now XI's world felt like a vast, wild, living planet compared to the 200 acres of rides and vending machines we have now.
for someone with such a shady name, you say interesting stuff
(i'll see myself out ^^''')

Well, it is small because Eorzea is only one continent. With more expansions they can gradually open up the entire world and then you'll be glad you have those teleports.
SE, just smash all but 6 or so of the Aetheryte Crystals with a meteor or something. We'll live, it's not as if we don't have chocobos we can summon anytime we want. this game is already nothing but loading screens thanks to DF.
Back in my day we didn't get maps and telleports just handed to us, we braved the wilderness and banned together with people we met along the way. It was fun! When I first started playing FF11(get over it haters, FFXI > FFXIV content wise) I walked to Fei'Yin without a map just for the hell of it and it was an epic newbie adventure!
P.S. Grats on the job interview Rokien, I hope you get the job and that it's for a game development position for FFXIV ARR.
