Wow, I never knew he talked about himself so well on a different account! That's kind of lame, Rokien.![]()
Rokien...
Rokien...
hmmmmmmmm.
If I recall correctly, wasnt Rokien the guy that opened about 5 posts a day during 1.0 / ARR Beta complaining about every single thing, from grass quality to character voices?
EDIT: Oh ok, just saw your post BobbinT, yep he is XD
In the world of Eorzea it would makes sense for them to place those crystals in as many places as possible, you know for convenience, so from a logical stand point it makes sense.
Hate to always be bringing up FFXI but seriously why not have a crystal for just the main regions. (thanaland, shroud and la noscea) (mea, holla and dem) so you can still travel relatively efficient. OH and due to more walking/riding you would defiantly come across more HUNTs.
and you can keep the other ones in mor dhona and the corths.
"Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."
yanno... i actually agree with this post. NOT in the manner that he collected it but in the concept he produced. Maybe instead of using gil to teleport (since the theory of your character spending the gil to help maintain the area you are teleporting to is kind of wishy washy) they went back to the old ways where teleports would cost Anima and the only way to refill your stock was to do a specific quest for items or wait for time to pass.
In this scenario, airships and the ferry become used more and players will travel the land more frequent instead of just porting around everywhere. And yes i know with Hunts it would suck to have to walk to a mark but maybe if they make all marks require a lot of people (due to a massive regen that you need the DPS to handle, or some mechanic) instead of a tiny group being able to kill them with ease, players would be more intimidated and wait for more to show up.
My thoughts on it. No hate intended
I just want a make a small point in this thread. I do not really care about teleports, this is just a small point about a specific argument that people use ALL the time when someone asks for a change, that boggles my mind.
This whole "You don't have to use it if you don't want to."
This, right here, is a completely stupid and is the epitome of a argument that is not well thought out in any way whatsoever. Simply put, as gamers, no as Human beings, we always always will take the most efficient way possible. This is especially true for MMO games. For example, if we were to introduce a instant level 50 button, it doesn't matter if it's a choice or not, 99% of the population of the game would use it. Why? Because an efficient way exists and because of that, people will use it.
For example, if I was to come to you and tell you that I want a service that I pay £5 for and get an instant lvl 50, with full ilvl 100 gear, you would disagree. You'd bring up a list of reasons of why you don't want it, and that it'd ruin the game, you'd skip content. Yet I would argue that "The content is still there if you want to do that. You don't have to use the service, it's a choice." Now let's imagine that this service was implemented. What would happen? Most of the population would use it. If you'd use it isn't the problem. The point is, most people simply would.
See how stupid that argument is now? The argument simply does not work and should not be used. If you have an argument against a change, formulate one without clutching for stupidity.
This argument shows it doesn't work, with flying mounts in WoW an the changes they will be implementing in the beginning of WoD. Blizzard don't want people to skip content with flying mounts and so people are not allowed the use of flying mounts in the new zone for the first patch. Yet people came and complained saying "If you don't want to use them, don't. I do." But if they WERE allowed, everyone would simply use them for the convenience of it, regardless of the effect on the game.
Rokien has a point here, we can't just remove teleports, but teleports are actually free, no matter what you do, you can cover the gil used for telerpoting in no time, so yes, this game is too friendly with traveling, and i'll say more, convenience kills fun in the end, that's why we have the half of the player-base complaining of boredom the third week after a new update, everything is handed to us and even w/o rushing we end getting bored of the new content.
You have to play 1-2h/day max to really have fun, and some MMO players are not "healthy" enough to be satisfied with this short play time.
It's not a stupid argument. When I have time on weekends I will use my mounts and I will run to city states or camps rather than teleporting, as I have time and I rather like the aesthetics of the open world. When I have less time I opt for convinience. What is stupid is to tarnish an entire gaming population with one brush. Brayflox was for a time the most efficient myth farming but I know plenty of people who didn't do it (including myself) because they CHOSE not to.This whole "You don't have to use it if you don't want to."

Yeah, that's not going to happen.
Once you make it easier for people to do something, you can't really take it away with out heavy backlash.
And I actually fully agree with you on why it should be done.
So you are comparing teleports to a free lv50 job ticket? Using your line of tought, why not make a button that insta kills Twintania? Why not one for finishing T9 and getting the drop for the class you are using?
Btw, you can ask everything you want, it not necessarily means its a good service and that yoshi is gonna listen to it. Progressing from lv1 to lv50 lets u learn how to play the game, to progress in the story, how you came from zero to hero....
Some people like teleporting, some people like walking. What's the sure way to please both? Having teleports, so you can either walk or teleport. Taking away teleporting will only make one of the sides upset about it.
