I don't get the obsession with traveling these worlds. Let's be honest, if you genuinely wanted to explore, you would. You wouldn't make up excuses as yo why won't, or try to take the ability away from everyone else. Traveling is tedious, even when things are dangerous, it's still a tedious experience getting from Point A to Point B after the 20th time. Remove teleportation, and FAR more people would complain about how much it sucks traveling.

If you want to explore, EXPLORE. Literally nothing stops you.

I didn't say anything about exploring. I was talking content and making the world feel smaller than what it already is, like it's already super small. Why do you want a hub base MMO? There's going to be "tedious" things in everything you do, and every game you play. It's part of life. So again, what's the point of this Open World MMO for you, if you don't want to traverse through it.

My favorite MMO actually was hub-based, and I would love to find a good one again. But there are no good ones for consoles.

And it's exciting to explore and travel the first time into an area. But as with RL, it's boring after awhile. The way the crystals work we get both. The initial excitement since we have to activate the crystals before we can teleport, and the protection from the tedium of traveling. Win-win.

They only added the other modes of transportation so facilitate lore, people without much gil, and for the sake of variety. Let's be honest here regardless of how much of the world YOU wish to see we would grow tired of it just as fast anyways. The game is catered toward a casual crowd who "don't have much time to play." This means they need to be able to move across zones quickly. Say you are on your lunch break, 1hr, and you want to do something in zone B but you have to go through zones E, F, G to get to it. This is not a good design for a company who wants to retain players by keeping them in the game playing.

I know you may argue, well it would take them longer to do things but taking a long time simply due to travel is hardly fun for a majority of people. I love going outside and I run on a daily basis, irl, but it doesn't mean I want to run to the grocery store all the time when I could drive instead >_>

I get where you are getting at, and Instant teleportation should be really only used by those people who don't have much time. For others, every once in a while is just perfect.

Why don't you simply walk w/o forcing us to do it too? I mean, I get it that it might sound good to YOU but what about the others that happen to like teleporting? If there is teleport you can simply walk (satisfying both ends) but you can't teleport, those who like convenience won't be much happy about it.

have you ever played a botanist? or a miner? You know those unspoiled nodes that pop for 10 minutes once an hour? Yea can you imagine being in outer lanoscea and a node pops in central shroud? yea you're not gonna make it. Do you really think people are gonna sit in central shroud all day waiting for that node to pop and not do anything else with the game? Nobody needs these old mmo mechanics, just like we didn't need this open world hunt garbage either (but I digress.)

Do I think the game is friendly with travel? Yes.
Do I think the game is too friendly with travel? No.

Serious question Rokien, why are you back? I'm questioning that because I'm almost inclined to believe you are impersonating him. The posts back then and now are almost completely different in format, language, sense of urgency and well, it lacks a bit of the Rokien "heart" he gave his ridiculous posts.

Hi Rokien, long time no see (since I've been a long time without coming here), good luck with your interview.

I think it is way too friendly, but I have to say when I logged in 1.0 after FFXI and WoW I felt a great relief having the ability to teleport to an area you have previously reached by other means (didn't liked the fact that there were no mounts though) so I don't agree with eliminating it completely, but I think limiting it introducing anima back or some other mechanism that would make you think twice if teleport or not as it's a limited source that can be regained really slowly would be the way to go again.

Anyway I don't feel the world dead or empty, and it may be my own way of playing but if I have the time I often chose to not teleport and go walking or even using a chocobo porter to my destination.

I think having options to enjoy the game in different ways is the way to go.

I agree with bringing back anima. I think that would be the best solution for solving this "world's too small" syndrome. Aside from housing, Gil is useless and mainly for convience so throwing it away teleporting everywhere makes it easy. With Anima, you would need to manage your teleporting better. Also make it so you have to click on the glowy entrance to the dungeon you want to queue for would also make people travel around more.
